some1 offered me to take over his vodacom weekend plus contract, with an N70 phone, the cost associated with this switch is R230, should i be paying this cost or should he. the contract is currently at R135/month. he also mentioned that i should pay him for the phone, isn't he supposed to give it for free or at most, how much should i pay for the phone. suggestions will be appreciated.

Seeing that you are the one doing the favours, he should pay for it. If he doesnt want to, just get your own contract. Its going to cost you R99 to sign up.

you can get an n73 on same contract, ... and that'll only end an extra 5 months later... thats what i would get... or even a K800.

it expires in october 2008.

That's like 4 months of the contract that he's paid for. So you would get the remaining contract and still have to pay for the phone. This hardly seems fair and if you have to buy the phone from him too, he will probably make a profit from his contract. It sounds to me like he's trying to take you for a ride ;)

i'm still keeping my options open, just looking for ways to get a good deal in my favour from this guy.

why not just take out your own contract ?

just did some maths, out the R135/month, R100 goes to airtime while R35 goes to the price of the phone, he paid 4 months which equal to R150 and i'll be paying 20 months which equals to R700, so i should only pay him R150 for the phone. correct me if i'm wrong.

Give him R100 just so you dont feel guilty.:p

The phone also loses a lot of value as soon as it's opened, so he should pay you to take it on the contract :p

Actualy I agree with bullfrog there. What are the chances of him being able to get someone else to take over his contract AND still pay in?!
