Nelspruit - "Help, they are shooting at us!"

So said the SMS 19-year-old Charise Pretorius sent to her godfather, Charl Oosthuizen, shortly before her 42-year-old father, Chris, was shot and killed.

Chris died in a shooting on Monday at about 01:00 at his home in Stonehenge, Nelspruit.

The two murderers had climbed through the open kitchen window. The window had no burglar bars.

Proudly South African

I'm getting so tired off all the **** in this country.

Family of mine got attacked on their farm as well over the weekend. The police couldn't go to the farm when called because they didn't have transport.

Why do we have to live in our own private jails? We are only allowed to go outside to create tax money for the government, and then hurry home before dark, so that we can lock ourselves behind bars again. Erroneously feeling save in out little jails, and just sitting ducks, ripe for the picking.

...and still, you get the "enablers" that say, "my suburb is perfectly safe, the situation is just as bad in the US, UK, Aus, NZ.....".

Those perpetually "positive" people, IMO, are just as bad as the criminals and the criminals love them.

Know what you mean.

Last week our dogs started barking and when I looked outside there were 2 guys climbing into a tree to get over our palisades. Then our power went down and I tried using the land line to call but there was no dial tone - used my cellphone and called the Vodacom emergency number, I had the option to press 1 if this is a life or death situation...but then I had to wait at least 5minutes for an operator.

The operator finally answered and said she would send a van...

I also called some mates and the alarm company. The armed response arrived within a few short minutes and captured the 2 guys still inside our lapa.

The police eventually arrived about 45mins later.

I went for a walk the other day with my GF and we saw this guy peering into peoples houses (it was about 6pm) and when he saw us, he walked away - anyways, I called the police station (I have the number saved on my phone) and spoke to a police lady, gave her details and in not even 2 minutes (maybe 3) I saw a police van fly past me (we were further down the road)

I've said this before and I'll say it again... do not phone 10111, rather phone your closest police station (find out the number, and save the number onto your phone)

I had a police man tell me this - 10111 is the 'middle' man as it were... only if its a murder or something EXCEPTIONALLY serious will things happen fast.
