Howzit,

I've been looking around for a new laptop for a while and have found a few that look good, however I've heard quite a few of the local distributors offer really sub-standard support. I've heard Dell support is crap along with the local Mac support (quite different overseas, though). So who is actually any good? All comments would be of great help.

Cheers :)

In my experience the local Mac support isnt bad at all - especially if you live in JNB or CPT (maybe DBN too(?)).

Outside of those areas it involves overnighting the laptop to Core in JBN - at their expense - which tends to add some time on to the equation. Fortunately the only times I can recall needing support were due to owner error rather that hardware. :)

All support from those laptop companies are through partners/resellers in this country.
Usually that is why you buy from a middle man company that has on site warranty.
They can fix the LSD onsite but other stuff they usually order and you wait.

HP.... it might be a good laptop, but since Tarsus are the distributors, the service goes right down the drain. Toshiba is serviced by Mustek, whose support is acceptable. Don't know about others.

So to get your LSD fix you ship your laptop off to the service centre? :)

wow, they were doing that back in the 1960's (minus the laptop, but do you need a lappy when you happy and high?)

i think IMB has a good service, but I got a friend who's brother worked at Asus, and they not to bad (but then again, my friend is more into Asus then women, and if government condom's had Asus on them, he would get them)

I had my screen replaced by asus in 1 day after I broke it ... same with my battery.

One of my clients had very high praise for Dell support. He had several problems with his laptop and the technicians were always on time, very professional an knowledgeable. Sad to say that Dell does have major issues in some other departments...

ummm hp laptops should get taken directly to hp

i find acer has amazing support

hp has good support as well

toshiba is shocking and would not go near toshiba because of the poor support

as far as i know rectron does all the support for toshiba and they used to be the sole distributer, i have not bought toshiba for a long time so i stand to be corrected

Mustek also does Toshiba, and there is another company I think, not sure who.

o is it, have they done it for a long time?

i stopped using mustek because they expensive and service was kuk

also then they closed my account and wanted to charge 200 bucks to reopen it

I hated my Dell laptop because of the heat problem which Dell refused to acknowledge or blamed on other reasons.

However their next date on site hardware service(3 years which are prepaid) was really SUPERB and they replaced anything which broke the next day, wherever I was at the time.

I only been registered with them for a year, so no idea, but hardly use them ... and they do like charging for accounts :P

yea i mean wtf is up with charging?

to stop one time buyers? ppl who want to buy once off wont go with them anyhow

frontosa is more than likely the best computer supplier in SA
jhb branch is very well run and they stock so many different items

Those 1 time buyers still bring them money ...

Frontosa are really good, agreed ... but there are other good ones too, some that actually go out of their way.
