HELP Wikileaks !

I'm not ramming any crud down your throat. I'm simply saying that your personal dislike of Mr "AssAngel", as you put it, has no bearing on the content of the information which has been leaked.

It just seemed that you were willing to discard all the information that has been leaked via Wikileaks because you don't think much of Mr "AssAngel", whom you 'jokingly' claim is probably hoarding all the donations made to the site in order to fly himself around the world in private jets and live in the lap of luxury.

You're just making an ad hominem attack against Mr "AssAngel" for reasons of your own. I'm just pointing that out. No crud is being rammed.

as I said... you can no longer separate the two. See here... http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/291411-Wikileaks-boss-blackmails-world

But it's hard to do any convincing here on this forum when you are dealing with a bunch of individuals who think that fairy dust flies from the guys arse.

as I said... you can no longer separate the two.

No - YOU can no longer separate the two. The rest of us can appreciate that the Afghan war logs (for example) are highly disturbing confirmations of the grim state of the 'war on terror', and they do not become less disturbing just because you don't like Mr "AssAngel".

I have no problem with the Afghan war logs... as long as they benefit injured parties, don't put additional lives at risk, and are not likely to further inflame an already embroiled conflict. As for HOW the Afghan war logs made their way onto the internet... I will reserve my right to comment as I see fit. Thank you very much.

(and BTW... I knew it was just a matter of time until other people would also start referring to him as "Mr. AssAngel".. thank you for being that special one! :D)

But you do have a problem with Mr "AssAngel", as you call him?

I'm just trying to get this straight. You are against the leaking of information you think is dangerous, and you childishly refer to the public face of the organisation releasing the leaks by calling him "AssAngel". According to you, anyone who doesn't call him "Mr AssAngel" thinks his ass produces fairy dust.

Pardon me for saying so, but your arguments do not seem to be terribly well thought out.

Okay folks. For our own ZA mirror I have two options.

1) Host a server locally with Mweb
2) Host a server in Sweden with PRQ (they currently host the piratebay and wikileaks)

Both hosting platforms would cost about the same, except with the Swedish PRQ network I get a hard network designed to handle ddos attacks (which I expect this server to come under attack from). Also with mweb hosting I get 50GB of bandwidth. Then I get charged 2c a mb. With the Swedish one I get 500GB. I kinda feel that 50GB of traffic will get ddos`d into extinction in minutes.

Nice thing about hosting with PRQ is that I can then hosting services like torrent trackers and such. Something I doubt I would get right on mweb`s network.

So should I go local, and risk Mweb pulling the server because I highly highly doubt there is any skill at Mweb to deal with the type of attention this server will pull (I kinda feel they will pull the plug on it the second it starts loading their network), or should I go Swedish and get a hardened protected server?

Well I have been speaking to Mweb, afrihost, webafrica and a couple of smaller hosting (local) companies regarding a wikileaks mirror. None of them have the balls to host the files.

The only one who will host is Afrihost. They say they will host it until they are legally asked to remove it.

So there is that.

Yeah, it takes a lot of character to stick to your ideals. Its not for everyone.

Your ad hominem attack aside- if you would approach the situation pragmatically you'd realise that the contents of the leaks really aren't that interesting. The reason no governments have even batted an eyelid is because all of them do exactly what the US has been caught doing. Assange has a vendetta against US.gov so he is using these documents as part of a smear campaign. It is disgraceful that such a valuable resource for whistleblowing has been hijacked like this. This is a victory for the corrupt out there. To everyone who matters wikileaks has taken on an X-Files level of credibility. If anyone wanted to expose true corruption and be taken seriously they could no longer rely on the publicity circus it has become.

This guy is now starting to release info that is going to lead to innocents being harmed. Not acceptable.

I was agree`ing with you and adding my own observation. It really does take character to be able to stick to your ideals and I personally fail in that way a lot. I could do better but my character just cant seem to handle giving them up. Evil only happens when good men do nothing.

For something not that interesting people sure do seem to be over reacting huh?

Obvious.

Assange has a vendetta against US.gov so he is using these documents as part of a smear campaign.
Fail. Beeep you are the weakest link. Good-bye. Juuuuuuuuuust kidding. Actually America is one of the technologically advanced countries with good technical information systems. I imagine very few countries have such efficient centralized systems like america. This allowed someone to make a copy of their database and that person passed it onto wikileaks. Since America is high profile and is the only country to have so much sensitive data published (thanks to its great big database systems) - That pushed wikileaks in the lime line. Theyve honestly done a lot of countries and stuff but theyve never had such big leaks. Thats why this is so big. Sure Assange dislikes American policy, so do I sometimes, and I promise you if this had happened to China or Russia it would be way bigger and way better for everyone, including Julian. I can guarantee you that if this had happened to China a million Chinese would be thinking that Julian has a personal vendetta against China. Julian is working with what he has. You want our golden child America out the spotlight? Get this type of data from Russia, Iran or China.

It is disgraceful that such a valuable resource for whistleblowing has been hijacked like this.
Yeah, like those silly people who thinks that wikileaks was hijacked by Julian. Its so much bigger than Julian or those people. This whole hate thing is one giant ad-hominen against Julian. By rubbishing Julian the are rubbishing Wikileaks and trying to get them pushed off the net.

This is a victory for the corrupt out there.
Not at all.

To everyone who matters wikileaks has taken on an X-Files level of credibility.
Not really. Ive only noticed that in about 15% of the people I know. All the smart people I know this is a good thing. Almost all of them are conservatives and simply are not genetically wired to be able to handle this kinda change.

If anyone wanted to expose true corruption and be taken seriously they could no longer rely on the publicity circus it has become.
Completely without base. Actually its now an even better place to leak stuff to. Its become super high profile with more mirrors than a circus ;)

What type of costing and bandwidth? If you are interested Ill be starting a group soon and my company will be sponsoring payment of a server. Though right now I think the safest spot is Sweden.

There has been a lot of over-reacting amongst people who don't know much about the realities of politics or diplomacy. The leaks don't prove any corruption or wrong-doing. None of the other governments are objecting much or crying foul over the US' activities because they have done nothing wrong. This is the equivalent of some idiot stealing all of the intellectual property and business secrets of a company and posting it on the internet and claiming to be stopping a great evil. The US is pissed because of how their IP was stolen and shared with the competition. That intel cost billions of US$ and decades of work.

Personally I think its being good PR for America. America`s soiled clothing laid out and it not being as dirty as a lot of conspiracy nuts thought. Basically its confirming what everyone knew, but in a way that embarrasses America. So it comes across as more honest. This is one reason why that wheel tapper president in Iran dislikes the cablegate release so much.

So far, Ive personally felt that Afgan war logs were way worse.

I also thought the Afghan leaks were a storm in a teacup. Go figure - people dying in a war? Who woulda thunk it. I was actually surprised at how much effort they were taking minimising civilian casualties and how successful they were being at it.

Innocent people does not get harmed because of this guy.. Innocent people gets hurt because of corrupt governments.

Seperate the message from the Messanger

Some quick thoughts on this.

Lets Seperate the message from the messanger.

The messenger is Julian Assange - I see a cult personality developing here, and this is not good. All Cult Personalities come to an untimley end and do not stand the test of time. - History will not treat him kindly, when his agenda is finallty understood and exposed.

I know that he "aquired" American secrets here, but where is the other nation state secrets. If his source can "acquire" US Secrets of this level, then surely other nation's secrets are also capable of being "acquired" - Very Onesided

The Message - This is just office politics on a grand scale and big playing field. My gut feeling tells me that the real revelations are still on the way, And I think it needs to come out.

However, people lives are being played with here, people who have no way of protecting themselves.

Ask yourself one question. When did wikileaks last use the term "redacted". This policy seems to have flown out of the window. This is the worrying part

Eh. In that case, we'll just call what he's doing "Information Warfare" and suddenly it'll be justified.

Cos you can harm innocents as long as there's a war on. That's fine.

They asked the Americans to assist them in redacting the compromised cables. The Americans threw a fit and refused to co-operate. But yeah, it's all Wikileaks' fault...

If is right why can't we acces wikileaks. The blokking is the worst SA has done sofar.
