I only learned that the cablegate database wasn't released in its entirety this morning. Apparently the real meat of the content will be released incrementally for the next couple of months. And it's the stuff that's still coming that's got the US government all up in arms.

I think you should put your personal issues with Mr Assange aside. The fact that you don't like the look of his face doesn't make his work at wikileaks any less important.

Wikileaks was credible when Assange let the docs speak for themselves. Now he is so personally invested and his impartiality so torn to shreds that wikileaks is useless.

Before Assange tried to turn into a political crusader Wikileaks hosted really interesting stuff like the SA government's enquiry into our banking sector which was meant to be made public but was hushed up by Trevor Manual because he was screwing the head of ABSA in his capacity as Minister of Finance. (An improper relationship if there ever was one.)

By saying that you imply that the content of the material posted by wikileaks "changes" (ie, becomes less valuable/credible/interesting) depending on what Assange does.

I don't follow you, I'm afraid. For example, WL released a diplomatic cable saying that Al-Jazeera is used for propoganda by the Qatar government. This cable will continue to say the same thing regardless of whether Julian Assange is a rapist, a murderer, or just generally a d ick.
 
Due to his hatred for the US government and his agenda I do not trust him to be impartial when he decides what gets published and what doesn't. Anything posted will be posted to further his agenda. It's a slippery slope from that to editing and manipulating documents to prove his point.

He is no longer trustworthy.

Can I just remind everyone that the day after Julian said that he was going to expose a big bank, all hell broke loose against Wikileaks?

It truly shows you where the power lies in the world. It's not with government, but with big business.

And some of the rumours has it that Citibank is the bank that's going to get the stick. Can't wait to see what happens.

I have said repeatedly that I have no problem in principle with an organisation like wikileaks that has the goal in mind of releasing information on behalf of parties who were injured and the details were covered up. I can see the value in that.

Unfortunately wikileaks is not that organisation. They have gone beyond their mandate and published material that has nothing to do with injured parties and everything to do with national security, safety and protecting innocent lives. In fact, they have now become a direct threat to the safety of private innocent individuals in several nations. Mr. AssAngel's epic personality has become so tied up with the character of the organisation wikileaks that it is no longer possible to distinguish the two. His staff has resigned citing the way he runs the organisation. They have lost their credibility. The way they release info is also under scrutiny. If they are willing to handle material that has been stolen or is considered a national or a military secret, then they had better be willing to deal with the consequences of releasing such info.

I think you are the one experiencing the problem, you and perhaps 4 americans that slept with their cousins. none of us are having the same problem that you seem to suffering from so intensely.

wikileaks is doing exactly what its mandate is to do. A whistle blower website. you just do not like the tune of the whistle. shame cry me a river.
 
Gary, I think we are talking across the other people in this thread.

They don't seem to understand the difference between an impartial repository of documents and a tool to further the grudge of one man waging a personal dispute against a government.

We are a an impasse it seems.

I'm not ramming any crud down your throat. I'm simply saying that your personal dislike of Mr "AssAngel", as you put it, has no bearing on the content of the information which has been leaked.

It just seemed that you were willing to discard all the information that has been leaked via Wikileaks because you don't think much of Mr "AssAngel", whom you 'jokingly' claim is probably hoarding all the donations made to the site in order to fly himself around the world in private jets and live in the lap of luxury.

You're just making an ad hominem attack against Mr "AssAngel" for reasons of your own. I'm just pointing that out. No crud is being rammed.
