Hi myBB,
I am in need of a tv, but on a tight budget (the nearer to R5k, the better) for general tv watching, movies, and YouTube.
Until very recently, I had a 10-year old 40" Sony (S-series) , which I was very happy with... had an old desktop connected directly to it for streaming and browsing, and it did the job fine.
So I'm no connoisseur... but (as with all thing i spend on) I'd like to get the best value for the money, or very good value for money at least.
Would be nice if I could get a 55-inch 4k smart tv for that price, but I after looking through Game, makro and Hi-Fi Corp websites just now, i know that's not realistic.
And anyway, I'm gonna guess that some manufactures (like many other industries) will chase the specs "tick-box" rather than working on quality and real value-for-money.

So... Can anyone who has knowledge and experience with tvs and prices please help me with finding the best value-for-money tv for around R5k ...or if I need to spend more, how much more before i start getting really good value for the money?
Like I mentioned above, I had my previous tv for almost 10 years, so this is gonna be something I wanna use for along time.

What is your ideal size TV? I would recommend hisense at that price point and also one of the longer warranties in the industry

An upgrade would be nice... Say 50-inch. Don't really think I need a bigger tv, but I also don't want to get another 40-inch.
Ya, so I see HiSense TVs are everywhere... Is HiSense any good? I only have 1 bad experience with HiSense from many many years ago with a crap set of headphones I bought

They are very highly rated and most salesmen I've spoken to recommend it over Samsung at said price point, mainly because of the warranty - Samsung these days only give a 2 year warranty

That looks like a really good tv for the price.
Can I assume that this M5 series is below the Hisense A6100 series? Any idea what real benefits the A6100 has over the M5. Just from Googling I saw one for R6200... So I'm wondering if the extra money is worth it, cos maybe I can hang tight and get the A6100 under R6k on a special

The m5 is about 2 years old now but it will still be roughly the same or better then the A6100

I imagine they pretty similar but might be worth the extra simply to have extended part life etc

I'm not sure off hand but I did read it on here somewhere. I have read though that their TV box doesn't support Netflix... So wonder if the TV does... And whether that is a deal breaker.

Ok, so now I saw the Hisense A6500 for R6700
I know it's R1700 over my original budget, but if I could get it in the low 6000's on a special, does the A6500 give me significantly more than the M5 or the A6100 for that extra money?

As everyone has said, at your price point hisense is the way to go and have a 5 year warranty..

A lot of people are saying good things about this model:

And at 5499, it's a very good price..
Hi
Do you perhaps know if the tv have low input lag for consoles?
I've seen a rtratings video stating that the Samsung uhd tv's were great for consoles as their input lag is low

LGs and Samsung's have the lowest input lag, the Hisense you have to put into game mode and then it drops down to 20 maybe 30ms which for console is fine.
The 6100 would be equivalent to an m/N3 series from Hisense. Rather go for the m5 it's cheaper but you'll still get the 4 year warranty and from that I've read the panel is actually better and the software.
On Skyworth they are the more premium brand of Sinotec and honestly it doesn't matter what panel something has. As you can have a great panel but the engine and software is bad. Not saying they are in this case just saying look at everything.

About a year ago I bought a Sansui 58" FHD LED TV for R6k on Takealot.
About 30 minutes later you returned it right?
Cause I've got a Sansui in my son's room and if it wasn't cheap I'd have returned it. Colour reproduction isn't bad but it artifacts a lot and there is banding in dark scenes. He doesn't care though

Still not a single issue with it ;)
