Looking for some help with a an adsl modem - must be able to maximise speed and work on a line that isnt the best.

wireless n point...

gibabit lan

I dont mind if it is one device or seperate devices. just would like good quality connections. Depending on cost I may purchase two wireless access points for different parts of the house (small house but my billion router is definitely not cutting it)

thanks

cool thanks. will check it out. forgot to mention that it has to be able to do port forwarding which should be standard across most routers i guess.

I also have a 7mbps connection.

had 10 was stable, then not, then 8 which was fine, then not. now on 7.

I am pretty sure it is the modem though. It seems to be need to reset every couple of hours...

Edit: this router is cheap *bonus* R550.

Is there one like this with GB LAN?

Yes, the tp-link should have port forwarding, it actually has so many features its ridiculous, such as bandwidth management etc.

Well from what I read on the other ISP related topics, no one seems to really have a stable line with fast lines such as 10mb etc, maybe the odd one here and there does actually have stability.

Had a Netgear N300 here at the office, reset itself every 30mins and put itself off maybe once a week. Was faulty and luckily under warrantee, so at least got that solved. Sounds like your router is faulty if it needs to reset itself?

looks like. my 7402 NX and now 7402 GX billions are end of life now.

I have found these. Do you have any experience with these?

P-LINK N750 WIRELESS DUAL BAND GIGABIT ROUTER [TL-WDR4300] R949.00

I would still need to add a modem to this. Any recommendations on this setup so I can choose. It will have to be "cheap" and have port forwarding.

How large is the area you need to cover with wireless? From what I understand, you want an adsl router and then multiple wireless access points?

Why not just get a decent adsl router with proper wireless coverage or is it necessary that you need to connect at points via cable?

My Netgear DGN2200 is covering 300square metres of house and is still visible outside the house. The router is located more or less in the middle of the property.
Not used the TP-Link but others have reported it works well.

Hope it helps

Tim

actually quite a small house but my present router (g) is dropping all the time. that why i am looking for something stronger. when reading these forums lots of people seem to think that having them seperate is better than one combined device...

i dont mind the dsl option as i have had this for a while as well. just want to find one the gb ports as do do a lot of file copying as well as wireless n. from what i can see these could be expensive. the 7402nx billion is now > 2k. i am over billion now. want something better.

that looks like a good option. i could probably just add a gb switch if necessary.

how does it handle bad lines?

Iceman23 can't really say from a persoanl perspectivve. My line is pretty good. I am about 1.5km from the exchange and never really had line issues
