Is the TP-LINK W8960N a good router ?

Yeah, it's excellent. I use one at my home and at my business and the range is excellent. Easy to configure too...

I get mine here..

It's a great router, bought mine from Uniterm on B&B as well, received awesome service from them

Bought three of them and have no complaints.

Uniterm's service is also great.

awesome! thanks guys :-) I had originally placed my order on dbg.co.za (which is the Uniterm Direct website) but ironically, its cheaper to guy it via BoB :D

Does it do halfbridge?

and what actual speeds do you guys get when transferring large movies over the network?

I believe it does yes.

I stream feed through to my Mede8er but the rate is limited by the Mede8ers some what sub par wifi dongle. Transferring data via Teamviewer using the file transfer function runs at around 1.6mbps...

Ja, I noticed that as well, the prices on their website may be outdated.

Great router! Works good and is reliable.
Wifi speeds are good, but the wifi range aint too great.

ok so i picked up one of these bad boys yesterday and it was a breeze to setup. VERY user friendly and superb build quality. but the real bonus is that my SNR Margin has gone from around 5-7 all the way up to around 10 or 11 :-) This has made a MASSIVE diff and the line appears to be stable at 5024 downstream now. I like the way it also calculates max possible sync speed. According to my figures, i could support downstream of 7072 :-)

but there is just ONE thing I am missing and cannot seem to find in the stats. Connection uptime. I know there is an overall uptime on the front page, but thats just how long its remained powered. This does not have any relevance if you want to track yoru connectivity. apart from checking the logs and manually working it out, how can i quickly see the total ADSL Connection Uptime ?

BUMP : anybody know how to check total ADSL uptime on this router ?

I bought one today and I can't use the wifi. I can see the router but cannot connect. I tried using my Laptop and my android 2.2 tablet. Both start to connect and immediately disconnects. Setup was quick, but now I have to use the old LAN Cable and it will not serve it's purpose as I have normal RJ45 modems lying around.

Please help as I don't want to have to return it.

k, go into the router menu via your web browser, 192.168.1.1 I think is default, select wireless - basic - make sure enable wireless box is ticked and make sure south africa is selected under country.

Then go into security options:
Under network authentication select Mixed WPA2/WPA-PSK (adaptive) and select a WPA predefined key which your devices will use to log onto the wireless network

Then go into advanced options:

Channel try 11 or Auto
Mode: 11bgn
Fragmentation threshold 2346
RTS Threshold 2347
DTIM interval 1
Beacon interval 100

Apply and save and see what happens....

Hi thanks for the help. However it did not work and is still not connecting.

Under systym info I get this:

Firmware Version: 1.3.6 Build 100825 Rel.68770n
Hardware Version: TD-W8960N v1 0x00000001

This information reflects the current status of your DSL connection.

Line Rate - Upstream (Kbps): 127
Line Rate - Downstream (Kbps): 384
LAN IP Address: 192.168.1.1
Default Gateway: 196.210.155.1(ppp0)
Primary DNS Server: 168.210.2.2
Secondary DNS Server: 196.14.239.2
System Running time: 0 day(s) 00:02:24

Okay, in advanced options under mode try selecting 11bg

Also in security options from the WPA encryption drop done menu select TKIP+AES...

Did that. Still giving me the same errors.

Should the gateway not stay @ 0.0.0.0

it changes to Default Gateway: 196.210.155.1(ppp0)

I'm total noob with this but according to some of the forums you just go through the setup and it works.
