Hi,i think i understand the basic of how odds work, like 4 - 1 means if u put a R10 bet u get R40 back, but ive seen 17/20,i have no idea what that means.Does that mean for every R20 u bet u only get R17 back?So even if your team wins u making a loss.

17/20 = 0.85

In those odds I think you get your bet back + 0.85 or 85% of your bet on top of the innitial bet

I can be wrong though.

anyway,so if the odds are 4 - 1 and u bet R10 and you win,do you get R40 back or R50

Also odds of say 45/10,is that just so its not in decimels?45/10 = 4.5/1 or does it mean ur minimum bet has to be 10?

Ahh thanx makes sense now.

Just remember these odds are a clear indication of what the possible outcome might be (No one can see the future thus they use odds)

If you see a horse in a horse race with a 43/1 odd the you know it's a bloody Donkey they got on the track some how. Now you get strange odds like 17/20 when it's a pretty close call between 2 or 3 horses. 1-1 would be a pretty sure bet, so 17/20 (0.85) even more so. They want to pay as little as possible on sure bets. That is how gambling works :p

I have no idea where you getting those from dude, can you provide a source and i would recommend you use www.paddypower.com for betting.

45/10 is 4.5/1 basically as you say.

No gambling and betting like this are very different, they make more money when a favourite gets burnt than they do when they win. They want upsets because that is where the money lies.

45/10 would be 450% they would use that instead as they can't say 4.5/1 that is why you get the strange number to cancel out the decimals.

Like your example would have been 0.85/1 which just doesn't seem right :D But it also indicate the min bet in some cases. Where 45/10 means you need a min bet of 10.

Lol im getting these from a a betting guide i got in the post from Sportbet.co.za.Like england Vs USA 11/20 odds to win.

Who had 11/20 odds to win? england?

Look american to me so i am not sure if it works the same as the UK.

www.paddypower.com dude.

Far better more focused on football. Interwetten is also superb.

Now that is a pretty straight forward indication that England is the favourite. What was the odds on a Draw ? Sure you could have made some good money on that game :)

Yea so then it works the same as the UK cause 11/20 = 5/10 which is about right.

Well the USA was like 8/1 to win :D. draw i think was around 22/10.

The 10 is not the minimum you can play, it just means 2.2/1 which is very odd looking and not the correct format.
