Hi everyone,

I need to get a new contract, but I have absolutely no clue where to even start. I don't have too much to spend so I'm looking for the best deal at the moment. I've done a lot of looking on various websites and it seems Cell C has the cheapest deals but they seem to offer limited data. I'd preferably get the Samsung S4 mini or LG G2 but I don't know how much data they use every month. I have wifi at home so I'd only be using the phone data when I'm away.

Long story short, which plan works out cheapest for a reasonably good phone nowadays?

Thanks in advance.

What ever you do make sure you have decent coverage for the provider you choose where you spend the most time.

Cell C straight up contracts are good and if you add recurrent 50MB R7.50 bundle, your OOB data rates are 15c/MB. You don't say how much data you need, for average smart phone usage it is very good price.

You don't say how much is your voice usage. If you need something bigger than Straight-up 100, then maybe look for Telkom Business contract called "Smart One-Rate", currently on special with Galaxy S4 Mini R199p/m. No inclusive minutes/bytes, but very low flat rates 79c/pm voice and 15c/MB data.

honestly
cell C has bad reception, documented everywhere.
Vodacom has bad and seriously arrogant customer relations, and are as flexable as a desk.
telkom mobile and virgin mobile have a lot to prove still.
mtn is the most expensive network to make calls or use data on.

I think the best contract to get on paper, what you pay vs what you get is the telkom mobile deal on the S4, think its like R200, 5gig data and then some otehr things that dont matter.

but that is on telkom....

next would be cell C, but then you know, forget getting a call through with any sort of consistancy.

personally I am on a horrible mtn contract that costs me way too much and gives me almost nothing, but I have my mtn sim set up on an afrihost APN so I have 5 gig of data there, and everything i use my phone for uses data, even calls are VOIP, smses are whatsapp/hangouts/skype/viber depending on who I am messaging.

Data is all that matters, and the best data prices are with afrihost, and you need an MTN sim to get the apn.

so worst priced network, calls can go through, coverage is actually quite good in my experience, and partnered with afrihost, sold.
