Hi guys,

Im currently deciding on purchasing a GPU for my custom build and this would complete my build for now.

I currently have the follwoing build and looking for advice

i53750K
GIGABYTE Z77-D3H (only supports crossfire)
2 TB western digital
4 gig corsair vengeance 1600mhz ram (looking to get anther 4)
GMC-H80 case
Cosair CX600
LG 23inch passive 3D display monitor with tridef software (1980*1080/60mhz)

I might possibly upgrade to an SSD as well in the future but the most important thing now is getting a GPU. In the future I would also like to play with an additional two monitors SO THE CARD i TAKE MUST BE FUTURE PROOF.

Yes it is for gaming and the occasional video editing. As I do want to upgrade in about another 5 years I came from an intel celeron 2.4ghz geforce FX5600 cannot remember the board so this only my ever proper Custom built machine.

Im currently deciding between these cards 7870, 7850 or 660GTX my budget is 3k no more at all.

Your input and experiences will be much appreciated. Im looking to purchase either from evetech or takealot as they seem to have the cheapest prices.

I would like to play on very high to ultra settings at least about 45 fps upwards. :)

Thanks guys

GTX 660Ti 2GB OC edition R3500 from Wootware. Stretch for the extra R500, will be worth it in the long run.

7870 dude....

R2,549.00

EDIT: This might actually be a much better buy though if you can get 200 bucks extra from somewhere (7950):

The 660Ti compares to the 7950 and it's cheaper.

"The eternal question: Which is better? HD 7870 vs. 660 Ti "
http://www.overclock.net/t/1339698/...is-better-hd-7870-vs-660-ti-benchmarks-inside
"Conclusion: Based on these 4 games, I have to give the nod to the 7870. The performance wasn't higher, but the framerates were more consistent. This lead to the gameplay experience being smoother overall. Since BF3 is my favorite game, I choose the 7870 without a shadow of a doubt. The fact that the 7870 is far cheaper than the 660 Ti makes this an easy decision for me... I choose the HD 7870."

Now, get a 7950 and you're set for well into the future, especially if you OC to almost 7970 performance levels. (Not that I would bother, OC'ing GPU's is a pain in the ass as far as I'm concerned)
The only game out there currently that really sweats things like the 7870 etc. is Crysis 3 on High/Max settings.

RaptorSA beat me to it! Get the 7950 from Wootware. You'll also get Bioshock Infinite and Crysis 3 for free... so effectively you paying R2200 for a 7950. No brainer!!

I got the 7850 from them a few weeks ago and really impressed with their service. Top notch! And will be rocking Tomb Raider tonight :D

That deal on the 7950 is good, but I also say stretch for a 660ti.

You need to back up that statement if you want to give someone on a tight budget some "advice"
So far the AMD cards all seem to provide better bang for buck.
R950 more for a card that's in the same performance range is ludicrous.

that screen o.0

go for the 7870 myst edition from wootware, comes with 2 games and its the new model , with the same core as 7970 just disabled some shaders.

Hi There,
The 7870 for me but as you have seen from all the comments everyone has their own opinions and why you should buy or not a card from one supplier or not.

Guaranteed though is that you are likely to replace before the 5 years you mentioned are up. Especially given the speed at which GPUs are being produced and the game manufacturers become less efficient with their code when they see faster processors available

Regards

Tim

Make sure that what ever card you decide on that it will fit in your case, if I recall correctly the GMC-H80 has space issues with graphics cards.

Thanks for the feedback to all you guys after looking at wootware 7950 I added the the extra R200 bucks and looked at the reviews on this card as well. It looks perfect and it is the best deal l could find plus it has the extra 3 gig mem, If i want to play in eyefinity as well. The monitor supports tri-def software as well for passive 3d so I have placed my order 7950 here we come.

Good pick, that'll keep you going for a long, long time.

What about 2 cheaper cards but in crossfire? Should kick @ss

Sticking in two cheaper cards, like two HD7770s, would be a waste of time. A single HD7950 would comfortably outperform them in every single performance metric and game you'd be able to throw at it, provided the Crossfire profiles are working.

Potential for microstuttering, heat, noise, dust, crossfire compatibility issues with some games... you name it.
XFire/Sli is nice for geeks messing around, not so sure it's the way to go for someone who just wants their PC to work without issues.
