Hi guys I recently sold a Fire TV Stick which was sealed and never opened. I bought two and kept that one sealed.
My mine has been working perfectly ever since I opened it.

Buyer has said that his one doesn't power up and wants refund.

Help...

Please move to proper thread if this is a problem

Always take a pic of the item you're selling - especially serial # labels etc. Minimize your chance of being given back a different, faulty unit. Anyway - it's your conscience on the line here. If they claim it's faulty you need to decide what to do. Obviously they don't want to be stuck with a faulty unit so maybe best to give them their money back. No way you can return their faulty unit under warranty once you have it back?

he should have a record of the serial on his POP or at least get it from the retailer.

Hey,

Buyer here, I probably should have asked that it be tested and if it then stopped working 2-3 weeks down the line, it's just the way it goes but this didn't work out of the box. I'm perfectly fine with eating the delivery costs and return the unit for a refund.

I've tested in multiple places with different cables and TV's and monitors and I've swapped the Fire Stick at work with the one in question. Dryburn's suggested half upfront and half after he's had a chance to check the unit out, I'm fine with that. I'm not trying to back out of the deal or pull a fast one, I really wanted the thing but unfortunately for both of us, it doesn't work.

both seems like reasonable people. looks like you have a solution already.

If I was the seller:
accept the returned unit, check the serial number, and if it checks out:
- replace with my own working unit, or a full refund (including shipping)
- a sincere apology for the inconvenience
- if possible, return the faulty unit to whoever I bought it from and fight the good fight with them

See, for me, there is perhaps a couple of Rands to be gained right now by not giving a (full or partial) refund.
But my reputation is priceless. And I will lose a lot more than a couple of Rands in future if I allow my reputation to be tainted now.

I don't know why you needed to open a thread for this. It's a very understandable situation. Sometimes things just don't work. I just today bought something that didn't work, contacted the seller and will get a refund. You need to sort him out if you sold him a non-working item. If it's sealed and not opened, Amazon should honour the warranty on it and it's on you to take that up with them.

TBH dryburn, it sounds like you're being quite uncooperative over this.

Great you got a cooperative seller ; could be worse.

I sold a HDD the other day which was pretty much brand new and formatted. I sold it, sent the HDD to the buyer in Cape Town and it was listed as being powered on for 655 days and still had all my personal data, passwords etc on it. I obviously sent the wrong drive as I had two exactly the same.

Luckily, buyer queried about the age and pointed out the data still on the HDD. I offered a refund but in the end, situation worked out with a cooperative buyer/seller.

Though, going to very careful with HDDs and data going forward

I disagree, maybe the thread gives the impression of a bit of a storm in a teacup but I think he's been perfectly fine about it thus far. In the end, it's being made up as it goes, neither of us do this professionally or regularly so I don't see the harm in having a discussion.

Glad to hear that.

I think stick is working, but not on the particular TV.

Sometimes it's good to read all the posts in a thread ...
I read, but I don't believe it was tested as claimed, as DOA fault happens extremely rare. Didn't want to make direct statement, but your reaction forced me to make it clear. My +1c

I sent this to Nexxus over PM.

"These are the issues I have.

Nexus received the Fire TV Stick on Monday the 7th. We chatted on Whatsapp before and after the deal. Nexus only informed me on the Sunday the 13th evening that Fire TV Stick is Faulty over MYBB.

I generally test the things I buy from the moment I receive them, so that I know everything is working properly. Nexus had me on Whatsapp, you could have sent me a message over whatsapp to help him set it up. Even just a message saying he received the Fire TV Stick. I would have usually sent a message to find out if the buyer received and is happy, but I just relocated last week on the 7th so I am still unpacking and setting up our new home.

So there are a few things that are a bit weird from my side, he received and didn't send me a message, he has been trying for 6 days and then only informed me about his issue. To be honest, electronics are very sensitive to fluctuations, he told me that you didn't have a converter so you used a different power supply. So that power supply could have been faulty, he didn't use it with a surge protector I don't know how Woodstock is but I have heard that PE has really bad power drops and spikes, and that everything should have a surge protector."

So the Fire TV Stick could have been working and then stopped working a couple of days later. Since I was only informed about the issue 6 Days later, He could have sent me a message asking for help etc. so I find this quite strange. But of course it is very difficult as I didn't test it as I advertised it as a sealed/unopened device. So even if I had the device I couldn't do anything in terms of testing etc.

I have asked Nexxus to send me the device.
I have contacted BestBuy, Warranty has finished end of Nov, No response from them yet.

Item doesn't work, doesn't matter why.
I would contact amazon support direct via the chat on amazon, their support and service is second to none

You didn't test it, you have no idea if it was faulty or not when you sold it. I'm sorry, the onus is on you to refund, qualms notwithstanding.
