Help with Media Center

Ordered the DroidTV!! Can't wait till tomorrow :)

Thanks for all the input guys, appreciate it!!

So I should spend the extra R50 then :D

Yes :)

Please keep in mind that Friday and Monday are public holdays, so you'll only receive it on Tuesday if shipping via Fastway or Berco

I thought I'd buy one last week to play with over the long weekend. Was then told that the last one was just sold. I wonder who bought it. Now I have to wait until the new stock arrives, hopefully this week still. :)

You're in luck, they arrived today :)

Just need a few hours to load and test firmware

Did you want Android or the standalone Linux build?

Finally got my Droidtv unit today. Looks good and had lots of interest from colleagues. I have attached my 2.5" external harddrive to it but all I get is a constant clicking sound almost as if the drive has crashed and it has not detected by the unit. Re-attached it to my laptop and it works fine. Initially it wouldn't find my USB memory stick either but after rebooting the DroidTV unit it eventually found it and I could view files on it. The memory stick is formatted as Fat32 file system while the external HDD is NTFS. Can the Droidtv see NTFS?

Yep most definitely. I currently have 2 x 2.5" externals and one usb connected to it and all in NTFS format. Plays all my movies and music flawlessly :) O, and my wireless dongle for the keyboard, mouse combo..

Thanks to AV SUPPLY my unit seems to be working properly now. Seems it was the ac adaptor. Thanks again for quick responses and great service.

Great news!

Glad I could help :)

slightly off-topic and most probably a newbish question(s)

If I buy the 'CS918 Android 4.2 Quad Core Mini PC with XBMC' do I hook that up to my Samsung LED tv in the lounge, and apart from watching series/movies from 2.5" hhd, I can also stream wireless via my wireless router in my computer room?

I have NO knowledge regarding media centre etc and its uses

Yes. If you have files on another computer on the network just create a network share for them, then on XBMC just add that share as a location.

Hi there

Something like that :)

It would be better if you explained your current setup, and what you wanted to achieve by adding an Android Box

Please send an email to [email protected] with your requirements, and I'll work out the best solution for you

Thanks

have XMBC on my PC, not really tinkered with it, but have watched some redbull tv on it - so yes means nothing I guess

cool will do - as I doubt there are any more clueless people in this regard than me...lol

meanwhile, what can a person do with such a device or similar devices?

Don't worry, we all have to start somewhere :)

The Android Box is a mini computer. You can play Android games (Angry birds), browse the internet, check facebook / twitter / email / Youtube, skype, stream local and internet media (Movies, Music, Pictures, etc.), and some users have configured theirs as a mini samba and torrent server.

The best part about the Android boxes is they don't use much electricity and are silent (no hard drives or fans).

They are also excellent boxes if you want to get into internet TV (IPTV)
