http://www.userbenchmark.com is the easiest I can think of...at the end it will tell you if your gpu is performing like other 1050's.

Did you ever uninstall all the old drivers?

Run http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html to remove any old drivers or remnants, put card in blue slot, install new drivers from nvidia site and try again.

I would also make sure the bios version of the mb is the latest and see if there are any settings in the bios wrt pcie

A quick google indicates plenty of people have issues with that MB and newer GPUs.

Xuvion over here http://forums.evga.com/New-GTX-970-FTW-Works-in-4x-Slot-but-not-16x-Slot-m2246378.aspx updated his bios twice and then got it working in the blue slot.

You can also try setting the blue slot to pcie v2 in the bios as this seems to also work for some people.

Get another 4 GB ram, you'll get better fps in games. 4 GB is not enough anymore, except if you're playing really old games but then you wouldn't have bought a new card.
