hi everyone. i just recieved my Huawei HSDPA USB modem. im able to connect to the internet (clearly) but i am having problems connecting to an online game (guild wars). the game is unable to connect to the server (there is no error, it just continues to try connecting). does this modem have some sort of firewall up or something? it works fine when i connect to another isp

You might need incoming ports to be open, but since I don't know anything about Guild Wars, I suggest that you have a look on their website for an FAQ that explains what you need for the game(s), then post a relevant snippet of that here including a link to the page where you found the FAQ info.

If you do need incoming ports open, then you will need to call 155 and ask them to send you the application form for the [searchforum]Unrestricted APN[/searchforum].

PS: welcome to MyBroadband :).

I was gonna suggest the [-]innetvpn[/-] internetvpn :o APN, but then i realised its basically the same as the internet APN.

thanks for your help. ive contacted the support team for guild wars. im still waiting for a reply. ill post when i get one. im not actually a subscriber to vodacom as i am in botswana. i use mascom but was unable to find any support web forum (surprise, surprise). do you know if this would be the same for mascom?

Unfortunately no idea about Mascom, not sure if Botswana has ever been discussed in this particular forum before - doesn't ring a bell.

Ultimately, you will need to find out from Mascom - chances are that Mascom blocks incoming ports that are probably required to be open for the game.
