Surely the original sound would have to be recorded so as to take advantage of 7.1? I mean, a mono original is just going to give you the same noise out of each of the speakers.
There is very little 7.1 content out there but I must say that my amp Kenwood KRF-X9090D does a great job processing the audio and I can hear the sound bounce off my 2 rear speakers separately as a 7.1 system should. I played some 7.1 shooters and you can hear quite clearly the difference between the rear and side speakers:D Also star wars was awesome in THX mode which it supports

Depends on the system. Read the manual to see the optimal settings. My system has 2 rear speakers which are put 1 metre behind me and side by side right next to one another for THX purposes and 2 side speakers next to my couch. I think as long as you are not going deaf then you are fine... probably:rolleyes:

Guys

Hi Recently bought a home theatre but only when i got home i noticed 1 HDMI port on it so basically i cant use it for my ps3

so here is my set up ps3 HDMI to TV then optical audio to home theatre

how good is the optical audio cable ? it wont give out HDMI sound but should be pretty close hey ?

i just want to make sure I understand your issue right

You just purchased a home theathre system and it only has 1 HDMI input is this correct?

I assume you have another device using the home theaters port? e.g DSTV HD decoder or something?

What I suggest you do if this is the case is get a HDMI switching box this will stitch several HDMI inputs via remote control to 1 HDMI output.

The output from the switching box would go into your home theatre system then the home theatre system would connect to your TV via HDMI.

This way you can have loads of devices working through 1 HDMI port on your amp

As far as the optical cable question go HDMI your Bluray moves and some games which you can play through the PS3 will not sound the same via optical cable. You will not get True-HD and DTS master audio the new HD sound formats though the optical cable.

Don't worry about having an amp that can decode these formats because your PS3 can decode them onboard.

I have mine set on auto, meaning that it plays whichever format the original is recorded in. I have a THX setting but never really use it because THX is that rare

Wait a sec so your amp has an HDMI output but no HDMI Inputs

If thats the case then you stuck you have no choice but to use an optical cable

you do know that you can return anything within 7 days and they cannot give you any crap about it

Where did you buy it from?

He bought an all in one box system that upscales DVDs so they assumed that it will be his source of entertainment but who actually still watches DVDs;)

There isn't a THX mode ; an amplifier that supports THX, simply means it meets certain criteria in order to get the little 'stamp of approval'. They also pay a license to add this little logo.

Yamaha, for example, never ever had a THX component but more often than not always met the criteria.
