hi all

last night my trustworthy Sound Blaster Live 24bit popped... :(

So its to on-board audio for me. Its a realtek chipset. I have the Asus P5N-D.

So I figured out that to have the front audio to work you need to have the BIOS setup to "AC97" and not "HD audio". That fixed that.

I was sitting with the problem where I plug in my earphones on the rear, and even with EVERYTHING on max the volume was pathetic...

Its a bit higher now that I have them connected to the front green, but gees its still pathetic...

any way to get around this?

cheers

*** I looked for later drivers but it seems I have the latest... ? Realtek ALC883 ver. 5.10.0.5888

Confirm that you have changed the settings in the Control Panel - Sounds and Audio devices tabs as well?

confirmed... dude I have changed everything

seems like Im not the only person with this issue (google) but cant find a fix..

best part is I have to listen to my hard drive and mouse wheel squeeling coz all the volumes are MAX... awesome! :)

Are your jumpers seated properly on your MoBo? I always struggle with them - big fingers? They might not have been important before as you were not using onboard audio...

nope, not the jumpers as I had to remove those (two of them) so I could put the connector for the front sound

those are the jumpers you are referring to, right?

Yip. On the Volume Control Tab - go to advanced settings - disable PC Spk Mute and SPDIF.

Then under Options - Properties - tick all - OK. Are one of the "Line In" , etc muted or set low?

Good luck!

SPDIF disabled?

I take it for granted that you have removed the SB card.

assume you mean mute it? Not sure if you can actually disable that port!?

Yes, the card is lying in the bin... :D

Not mute.
Control Panel - Sounds, Speech and Audio devices- Adjust system volume - Device Volume - Advanced - Advanced (again) - Tick boxes for 1 PC Spk Mute and 2 Enable SPDIF.

Uncheck both boxes - apply, etc.

dude, check out my previous upload..

I dont have that second advanced button... cock!

this is really annoying! :D

gonna try install a different driver...

got a bad feeling about this!

success! :D

I download the driver off the asus website. Its a bit older, but hey its MUCH louder...

also, all the interference is all gone. All I needed to due was mute the PC speaker in the volume settings.. and all sorted!

for **** sakes that was a pain in the ass! :D

thanks for the help moggie (+rep)

Onboard sound will always be 'softer' as a dedicated card due to opamps used.
Soundcards have them built in, as do powered speakers.

My X-Fi is on 32% in Windows7. Whereas my Realtek ALC1200 is on 50%.

:)
