i have a d-link router which i connect to using wi-fi. works 100% except when i play an online game such as tf2. i'l be playing for a couple of min and then the connection hangs for a second or two and then all is good again fora couple of min and then it happens again. which is highly annoying in the middle of a gun fight. any ideas as to why this happens? or is it just a general thing with wi-fi?

problem goes away wen i use a lan cable but i'd prefer not to use one. else i have cables running along the floor.. not pretty. reception is 100% and signal strength is full.

any help would be great. cant for the life of me figure this out.

Sounds like a possible configuration issue to me. We have an established wireless network in Johannesburg/Pretoria stretching across a huge area: +- 150kms and there are plenty of game sessions daily with no issues such as what you have described.

You may want to try fix the connection rate of your wireless link.
This often happens when:
1) Card notices that there hasn't been much packetloss on the current connection rate
2) Increases connection rate to the next highest rate (which causes a few dropped packets, and latency spikes)
3) Settles and starts to notice packetloss (causing more packetloss)
4) Drops connection rate down again (which causes a few more dropped packets and latency spikes)
5) Settles back on the lower connection rate for a while.
6) Rinse and repeat.

So fixing the data rate to that lower rate, will prevent it from trying to change.

thanks for all the replies.. thanks guys :) will try later today with the different settings and see if it made a difference :)
