Help with setting up my adsl

yes they need to come to your house agen wesleyfraser.
but before you call them, I would suggest you try with someone else's modem to see if it works, if not call Telkom, the reason is they'll charge you a call out fee if the problem is with your equipment.

Ok i will check that tonight hopefully its just my modem because i will be able to sort that out alot quicker than waiting for telkom...

why do you guys byu routers if one person is going to use it?

why not just buy a usb modem so much easier

Modem - win drivers, sucks

Router - no drivers, firewall, cross platform, port forwarding / blocking, no resetting when rebooting, no irritating pop up msgbox everytime it does something, dyndns built into linksys, the list goes on an on.

Check if your router is in bridge or router mode. Bridge mode allows you to use PPPOE to make a connection to the net, router mode on the other hand needs to be configured through the router's web interface. See the manual for details. I know that this is being repeated this, but like the other posters have said, the router is not syncing to the exchange. Check your settings :
"Multiplexing : LLC
VPI : 8
VCI : 35"

If that still does not work, I "may" be able to help ypu another way. Send me a private message if you wish further help.

This message is from my new and working adsl line. Thanks guys for all your assistance, I tryed the other modem and it still didn't work so I had to phone telkom they did something and now its working.
Cheers

I have currently the CICSO 800 series ADSL router, before that I use the Billion one (before that the Marconi one from Telkom, before that an no-name brand).

Setup your PC so that you dail-out with your PC ... Don't use the interface or any software that comes with your router. Few advantages, but then you cannot use the Firewall in the router ...

I had a problem with my ADSL link around Christmas time last year. And to Telkom's credit there was a techie on site the next day. They tested the line and it was fine but the modem still blinked - he tried his modem and same thing - no joy. What had happened was a port had blown in the rack in Rosebank. Rather than say that they'd have to fix it at the exchange the techie hunted down some people got them to test the port, and the patch me through to a new port so I was up and running - and all of this while the Telkom people were doing their Christmas lunch.

I know that this is the level of service we ought to get standard and unfortunately we don't always get it. I would never begrudge anyone their Christmas lunch either and it was a credit to the techie and the people he rousted that I was able to get reconnected.

Anyway - point is, you may have a Telkom problem that doesn't always show up on the line test. Instead of your friend bringing his modem to your place, you could try taking yours to his place. That will answer the faulty modem story.

BTW, I just noticed that you logged onto our corporate network. Of course it was with a different name and password ;0)
