I'm trying to do my self install, but I'm having some issues.

I'm able to get to Telkom sites, but no other sites (this is with either the telkom guest account, or my ISP account). The router is synching fine (the link light comes on my netgear, and the orange PPP light comes on if I'm using Telkom's mega200), so I don't think it's a username/password problem. I've got all the filters correctly placed, as well.

I'm fairly sure it's because it hasn't verified properly. If I put in my phone number and order number at telkom.co.za/verifyadsl, I get a message saying "your request has been processed". Is that what I should be seeing? Shouldn't the message say "successfully verified", or something like that? (Also, I'm still synching at 4Mbps, whereas my line should be 384Kbps).

Any ideas on what may be wrong? Otherwise I'll have to phone Telkom, and I'd really prefer not to have to :(

LOL

I had the EXACT same problem!
-Line synching at 4Mbps,Ordered 384k
-telkom.co.za/verifyadsl gave me the "your request has been processed" message every time

The remedy is to call the telkom number, helpline, whatever you call it. Now, if you got to a person that knows his stuff, he/she will be able to UnFlag the line as "verified",within 2 seconds...then you can reVerify it and it should work like a charm. Your only problem will be getting the correct person on the other side of the line. I was lucky on my forth try.
On successfully verifying your ADSL, you will get a message that tells you that it was successful; order number; line speed ordered.

Good Luck!

That was amazingly painless. The call was answered almost immediately, and the person on the other side seemed to know what he was doing - he wanted to do the verification for me, but my modem isn't on since I'm not at home. But he reset it to 'not verified', and suggested I do the verification while on the phone with them tonight (apparently they work 24 hours?!).

Thanks for the advice :-)

Yup we work 24hrs :S

Ermm if your line isn't verified you will be getting 4096 down and 384 up, and you'll only be able to access telkom.

At times the verification site can be a bit dodgy and you would have to phone us to have it set back to "not verified'.

Once it's verified successfully, your router will drop synch and resynchronise at the line speed you've chosen, ie: 384 down 128 up.

No Problem :D
Yep, 24/7! You don’t want to know how long This seemingly "easy" task took me (Telkom).

My Line was ready on a Monday.
I encountered this said problem when I tried verifying my line on the Wednesday.
Called Telkom on the Thursday.
The person on the other end told me that they had to send out a tech to my DSLAM exchange to reset my port by hand  . I kept on calling.

On Friday afternoon I retried verifying my line from a friend's ADSL line (the stupid person on the line told me that you must verify your line from another location than your home - stupid thing). It worked! (What I noticed, but failed to act upon, is the fact that the message on the site did not State MY order number, but some other order number. Got home - Nothing. Was still the same. It was already past 5PM and I thought I was done for.

Called the 24/7 line. The dude fixed the problem in 2 seconds flat!

I wonder how common this error is because mine did it too.
When you do the verification you need to make sure its from the actual adsl router you are using and nto from another line like your work internet connection!

Unless it tells you what service you ordered when you verify then it is incorrect. I did mine a few days and the first time it just said verified. Then after it was unflagged as being verified then it said verified and mantioned the ordered line speed aswell as the order number etc...

Seems to be pretty common but i was hoping it would keep up the 4MB/s speed instead of going to the ordered 384K :D

That infact does not matter! You just need to verify it. Even over the phone, does not matter where or how.

I was also hoping for the 4Mbps to stay :D

um

You know 163% of the people on this forum Totally dislike* Telkom, right?

LOL, how do you even survive the onslaught of people attacking you every day?

I'm going to use this to my advantage! Tell me, where in Telkom do you work? Call center / Call center / shop / technician? Do you maybe know how in this world I can get my hands on ANY OTHER MODEL of modem than the Mega 100WR on the SIO?

*Dislike being an understatment

I've ordered my DoBroadband(self-install) from Telkom and after 3 days my ADSL line was activated.
I picked my modem up the next day and after one call to Telkom I was up and running.
No problems experienced with Telkom - The service I received was GOOD.

Mine was apparently activated after just one day, but it took them a week to let me know (and, more importantly, to put a comment in the 'comments' section on their system to say that it was activated and that I could fetch the modem).

And then I had this verification issue... but it's working fine now, so I'm happy :)

I got the call to pick up my modem, the day after I picked up my modem. :) My comment section also did not show that my line was ready - I just refused to leave the shop without the modem in my hand. The 0800dsldsl line told me my line was ready and I must go and pick up my modem, and that was what I was there for. Worked like a charm! :D

WOW. The waiting time for ADSL in CT seems really quick! You guys are REALLY lucky!
Im going on Saturday to upgrade my telephone line to ADSL.

I wonder if ill have the same problem. If I do at least I know how to fix it :D
