Help with SSD

Kingston SSD V100 series are sh#t SSDs. R900 for a 60GB Kingston V100 is a complete rip-off.

I'd rather pay R900 more and get a 3rd generation Sandforce SSD (OCZ Vertex 3/Agility 3, Patriot Pyro/Wildfire, Corsair Force GT) which would be 120GB and would also be a lot faster.

At the very least an OCZ Agility 3 60GB for ~R300 more. Although at that price point it seems a shame not to get a Patriot Pyro 120GB.

Is it really that bad?

So.. what must i do?

Because from my friend, he doesn't have any OCZ, but only has Corsair...

What about the Kingston SVP100s2/96G SSD? Is that better?

Thanks

Yeah, i can see that it's not tha great, like the write and read speed is slow..

But they are ALL Sata 6, I only have Sata 3.. So won't the speed be dropped ANYWAY?

Yes, but it will still be a lot faster than a Kingston V100.

For example: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/372?vs=329

That is a Agility 3 120GB running SATA-3G compared to a Kingston 128GB V100...

Notice the huge difference, especially the Disk Busy Time. Disk busy time makes an SSD. Hard-drives aren't slow because of their read/write speed. They are slow because of the mechanical latency.

What kind of PC are you going to be putting this SSD into?

I see..

Um.. what I mean is..

If it's a Sata 6G, does that mean, the motherboard must have a Sata 6 as well?

Cause I was reading, and some people say, Sata 3 = sata 6G...

Mm.. My computer:

i3 530
6GB ram
GTX 460
2Tb HDD

Yeah, something like that..

Is the OCZ AGILITY 3 - SATA 3 a decent SSD? I am looking at the 120GB one.

I'm happy with mine. Yes, it does get beaten by other SSDs that are R300-800 more, but for normal home use you aint going to notice the difference

You must make sure your motherboard support SSD and have 6GBs SATA plugs, otherwise buying a SSD and have it on 3GBs will be useless.

If by useless you mean it will still work but a tad slower, then yes it will be "useless."

Yep, it's good. Also look at the Patriot Pyro which is slightly less expensive with the same performance.

Exactly.. then he can rather just buy SATA 2 and not SATA 3 SSD Drives.
*sigh*

Mainly the reason is that SATA-2 SSDs cost as much as SATA-3 SSDs. Why would you buy a SATA-2 SSD?

If you don't follow the local market, why bother commenting?

Because he might not have 6Gbs Supported on his motherboard, and it's not that much the same.

OCZ VERTEX 3 SATA III 2.5 Inch 60GB Solid State Drive - R1469

OCZ Vertex Plus 2.5" SATA II Solid State Drive 60GB - R980

Total Savings: R489 If he cares about saving ;) And not upgrading his motherboard to support 6Gbs SATA soon. But i would go for the Vertex 3 as well tbh if i had the money for it.. or wait and save that littlebit extra.

SATA-3 (6Gb) controllers are fully backward compatible.

You compare the current TOP of the line SSD with a SATA-2 SSD. I'm surprised you didn't use the OCZ Vertex 3 Max IOPS. There are plenty of options available, not just Vertex 3.

Allow me to show you a better example:

Also, SATA-3 SSDs will still be faster on SATA-2 than a SATA-3 SSD. Easily worth the R200 you pay for the faster option.

Cool, thanks Archer.

Not bad.

Some might find this useful: (Top = fastest, to slower at the bottom). Bottom ones are still incredibly fast.

SandForce SF-2281 with 32nm Toggle NAND
Future Storage, Mushkin Chronos Deluxe, OCZ Vertex 3 Max IOPS, OWC Mercury Extreme Pro 6G 120GB, Patriot Wildfire,

SandForce SF-2281 with 25nm Synchronous NAND
ADATA S511, Corsair Force Series GT, Kingston HyperX, MemoRight FTM Plus, OCZ Vertex 3, OWC Mercury Extreme Pro 6G, Patriot Pyro SE, Silicon Power V30, Super Talent TeraDrive PT3

SandForce SF-2281 with 25nm Asynchronous NAND
ADATA S510, Corsair Force Series 3, EDGE Boost Pro 120GB, Mach Xtreme DS Turbo, Mushkin Chronos, OCZ Agility 3, OCZ Solid 3, OWC Mercury Electra 6G, Patriot Pyro, Super Talent TeraDrive CT3

Remember OCZ, Corsair, doesn't matter the brand they are all based on the same controller (Sandforce). Buy based on warranty and price! The performance difference between these aren't worth the extra cost!

Some controllers like the Patriot Pyro and Corsair even have less issues looking online, than the Vertex 3. And no I'm not baised, I've bought OCZ and Patriot and I currently run a Vertex 3 in my main computer. I can honestly not tell the difference in performance between the Vertex 3 and Patriot Pyro.

The Patriot Pyro is pretty much a standard Sandforce implementation (AData would likely also be). Any of the SandForce SF-2281 based implementations are blazing fast and will sport a 7.9 in the WEI score with SATA-3.

It's not my table ;)

And I have no idea where it fits in, but given the specifications and price point my guess would be SandForce SF-2281 Asynchronous NAND

EDIT: Should have added, a quick Google revealed it is definitely SandForce SF-2281

EDIT2: Why would you want to buy it tho? Other brands (eg. Patriot Pyro) are at the same price point with longer warranties.
