Help with Synology DS213

Did u try a driver update for your onboard lan?

Yes I did, downloaded the latest driver from the gigabyte website. I think I have a busted on board Nic.

That's a lot better. Glad you are sorted

One thing I did realize is when I copy to my Nas my cpu on the nas jumps to 100% until the file is transferred then drops back to normal, should I be concerned or do I need something like Killer Nic to offload the processing?

Hi There,
having read through the post I would just like to clarify to make sure my understanding is correct.
You have eliminated the network being an issue through direct connection.
You get good speeds going from NAS to PC
Copying PC to PC is not an issue.

Is copying PC to NAS always slow irrespective of files copied? I suspect the answer is yes.

Then I would have to say that the problem has to lie in the NAS and what it is doing. Not an expert on these but it may be some Raid setting that is degrading the performance.

Do you get some monitoring tools on the NAS that you can check up on?

Regards

Tim

Yes the Nas has monitoring tools and everything seems to be ok. The volume (3x2TB's Western Digital) is currently setup on the SHR (Synology Hybrid Raid). S.M.A.R.T also checks out fine on both disk's. Like I mentioned the minute I installed the PCI Intel Pro Nic everything was fine, I also ran some more test and enabled write caching on the DS, I now achieve a maximum throughput of 52MB/s.

Hi there,
Glad that it is all sorted and write caching in a environment with power backup is a good idea to get just that little bit more out of it.
I guess the onboard LAN was part of the problem
