Help, WOW noob

I also have to add a question to the mix ;)

I am also now re-trying WoW. Tried it a few months ago and didnt really get into it. So much stuff to learn, and the available learning resources is so much and disorganised that I could not find an answer for 75% of my questions. I today picked up a copy of burning crusade, I hope my fellow saffers will answer a few of them.

1. What class should I create if I want a long term char? A Class that will always be able to find a group to do things with? I always enjoy playing rogues, but if the game is awash with them, it might not be the best choice in the long run

2. What professions should I choose? I need something to help me cash!!! Here I am looking for something for the short and long term.

Thanks in advance.

Pallies, priests u will always find a grp....especially horde side
warlock, hunter they are the **** at the moment in PVE/PVP but they might get nerfed if enough ppl complain...

skinning/herbalism/mining very easy while u lvlling cause all u have to do is watch the yellow dots on the screen:)

enchanting has the potential to make loads of money but it is a huge outlay to get to high lvls...

my 5 cents...

As far as professions - money at lower levels are pretty hard to come by so if you starting out new and dont have 60 friends who can spot you 5g or so then i would recomend Tailoring/enchanting - tailoring you get most of your mats off the mobs youkill
enchanting you get mats from the Tailoring greens you end up making - if you choose to make a cloth class like a mage or priest you can have gear that will assist you in you quest for levels - and enchanting you can buff yourself with decent chants togive you that much more of an edge in dps or in healing.

Tailoring you can very quickly make bags wich is a bonus more bags means more things to sell or collect for Trade skills

Learn to link quests- WoW inevitably has a progression of quests those who have rerolled a million times can tell you that if you do this then you get access to that - take some time to explore a zone opening up regions gives you a chance to familieize yourself with future questing areas - and find more quests.

I know Alliance backwards so if you choose that faction PM ill give you a head start in some linking quests that will speed your leveling up quite a bit

The most played classes are in this Order

1 Rougue
2 Pally
3 Shaman
4 Warrior
5 Hunter
6 Warlock
7 Mage
8 Druid
9 Priest

So hunter is definitely not the most played class, And there are going to be tons more Shaman and Pallys flying around when TBC launches.

I am not sure where you're getting your stats. According to warcraftrealms.com website, if you look at each and every server, Hunters and Warriors outnumber every other class by far, with Rogues being a close third and then the rest.

As to which class to roll now - healing classes always in demand in groups/raids - holy priests/resto druids, and both have decent solo/grinding viability if properly specced. Hunters easy to level and very viable for solo as well as group play - pet as an extra tank and traps for crowd control. Mages - great DPS, good crowd control, valuable in PvP and PvE. Rogues also very good DPS, fairly easy to level, great in PvP.

Do not roll Warrior - very slow to gain levels, difficult to play solo, very gear dependent class, poor talent trees design. If you spec protection you can forget about soloing or PvP. I play warrior as my main and trust me given a choice I would not have rolled a warrior today.

I played Warrior, Rogue and Hunter up to 60, Druid up to 57, Priest up to level 45 now so I have an idea about abovementioned classes. Can't say anything about Paladins or Warlocks, not familiar with those.

Cheers

Thanks for all the advice. I have decided to go with a druid. I read up on the class a bit, and love the versatility that it seems to have going for it. And of course being able to shapeshift is also a big bonus to me ;)

I however find WoW so far very boring. Only level 8 at the moment (first played a rogue and priest to level 10), and bored out of my skull. The quests are all the same (kill x amount of creatures/collect x amount of items). Making money is rediculously hard. I dont buy a single thing from any vendors or weaponsmiths/armorsmiths and yet I never have enough money to buy my skills.

Someone please tell me it gets better...

To be honest I can't play if I'm not in a guild. One of the main reasons I play WoW is because I enjoy the social interaction between the people in your guild and from other countries. It provides a great way to break the boredom of grinding.

What type of guild you may ask? A South African I would say. Raid guild preffered.

Nothing is more fun than talking about the cricket/rugby in guild chat. If you are interested in a Horde guild you can try <Prophecy> out. We are on Lightbringer(PvE) and since we are all still leveling you'll slot right in with us. We are a very casual guild trying to take all the positive things from ZA raiding guild and dropping the bad things like in-fighting and over-competitiveness. This is creating a very warm casual feeling to the guild which is a nice way too ease into the game.

So if you want a guild where you can level up with fellow countrymen without the hassles of belonging to one of the big raiding guilds drop your name in our forum.

Thanks Surprise, but the thought of starting over again makes me want to torture a puppy. I have managed to accumulate 20 silver today, and I dont want to lose all that money either. Was too hard to get ;)

Crewsader, if you could give me some tips on alliance I would love you lots for 5 dollah. I tried a Tauren Druid first, but.... For some reason I cant get into playing a slow cow ;) So I now have a night elf druid. Allready the same level as the tauren one, so definetaly easier.

Agree whole heartedly. I have 2 char's a level 12 pally and now a level 9 night elf druid. Must agree that it was much easier leveling with this char, than with the pally.

Just a question. Is it just my imagination or are most of the SA players on Horde Guilds ?

This is why you should play on a PVP server as that is where the fun is, WoW is extremely boring until level 20 or so, then you start grouping with people for instances and game play improves 100 fold, also at about lvl 60 it turns into a whole new game.

Got my info from the stats on my server, which might not be the general rule, I wouldn't go for a druid, cause although it seems fun and versatile in the beginning you are pretty much a priest at level 60+, no one wants a druid for anything else but as a healer.

That clearly has changed since the 2.0.1 patch - druids received considerable buffs as far as tanking/DPS is concerned. Feral druids in bear form can tank just as good if not better than warriors, with insane amount of armour and HP they get, druids in cat form do decent amount of DPS, plus stealth means you can sneak in many places without fighting, and resto druids can compete with priests if they skilled enough.

I would say druid right now IS the class to go for, unless they nerf it in upcoming patches. Whether you are resto spec or a full feral spec, you will almost guaranteed to find a spot in a party/raid.

On top of that - free travel and flying form - no need to buy mount or flying bird.

It does - early levels are for learning how to play. Things get more interesting later.

I know what you mean - I finally got my copy of BC last night, can't wait to get back to Hellfire...

Some Tips

while im wating for TBC files ill write up a brief help guidefor you and post it

It sounds like you have never taken a druid to level 60+, Unless you a the GM of your guild, no guild wants a druid in feral spec. And no feral spec druid will ever tank Onyxia like a warrior can. Also druid Aura's don't stack, so usually in a raid there are fewer druids then any other class.

and even with the 40% bonus in cat form your still going to have to buy a mount, otherwise when you pvp how will you keep up with your group who travel at 60%??

you make very little sense.... Have you even played WoW?

1) Druid's were buffed as tanks, this makes them better at tanking 5-man instances which is what the game is all about at the moment. Look here to see a warrior say it: http://forums.wow-europe.com/thread.html?topicId=120473857&sid=1&pageNo=1
That's maybe not all the factual evidence you'll ever need but I'm too lazy to do look up ALL the links supporting this.

2) No-one cares about Onyxia or BWL or even Naxx anymore. End-game TBC is what people want, and we don't know who is going to be the better tank there. Personally I think it will be a warrior with druid and pally off-tanks. The days of warriors monopolizing the tanking role IS over.

3) Cheetah is gained at lvl 30. That means for for 10 levels you can outgun almost all other classes (Except for shamans, they get ghost wolf at lvl 20). You also can't be polymorphed and you can just shapeshift out of snaresand roots. As a mage I find it VERY frustrating when I see a druid and I know it's useless to try sheep him. Oh and it's instant cast so if a nooblet roots you and starts running you pop this baby, break his snare and he's almost certainly n00b-stew.

So in closing I would like to say that I think druid's are awesome. After writing this reply I'm really in the mood to go roll one. Gone are the days were druids are pigeon-holed as healers. They are now truly hybrids. And if you're guild doesn't want to let you do some tanking they are full of ****, go find a new one. There are people who see further than their noses.

I'm off to go roll a druid, cheers.

Hi, me again!

I have played by druid(alliance) up to level 11 now, and Im really loving it. One thing that is really frustrating is all the l33t d00ds alliance side though. For something different I created a horde toon on a different server. I seriously doubt if Im going to go back to alliance. The people are friendlier, and if I ask some noob questions in the general chat, I actually get answers...

For my horde toon I am currently playing a blood elf paladin, and I have to admit that its pretty awesome. I will be trying a few more classes today to see what I will end up playing as my main.
