Actor Henry Cavill has been dropped as Superman by the new bosses of DC Studios, less than two months after he announced his return to the role.

"I have just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran and it's sad news, everyone. I will, after all, not be returning as Superman," Cavill said.

"After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn't the easiest, but that's life."
He said there were no hard feelings.

"The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that," he continued, in his Instagram post.

"James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes."

Gunn and Safran took over DC Studios in late October, just after Cavill made a surprise appearance as the Man of Steel during the credits of the Dwayne Johnson film Black Adam.

The British actor then posted a video telling fans: "I wanted to make it official, that I am back as Superman." The Black Adam cameo was "just a very small taste of things to come", he added.

I wasn’t going to start a thread about this, but then I read Cavill's statement. The guard changed? Odd, but indicative, word choice.

Cavill is the new Sherlock Holmes, has the Argylle role too, and he is in the new Highlander. There is also the Guy Ritchie movie which I hope will be good.

DC shareholders sucking on the Gunn hoping he can save the mess it has become and bring in some Guardians style moola.

So Cavill goes and everything associated with Snyder.

Cavill is one of the best actors out there at the moment especially aided by his appreciation of fans and understanding of them in these genres being one himself.

Removing him from DC effectively killed all hope they had of salvaging their mess. Likewise Witcher season 3 is now a dead property.
If only these studio execs did the very obvious. Listen to fans, learn to hire proper writers and producers and get out of their way.

He's cool enough to pull it off. Cavill is a bit too stiff, but should work too.

A bit OT, but in my view, James Bond needs to be British, as long as it is within that scope, I am happy. George Lazenby was Australian, but Bond once, and not Bond again. I wouldn’t like an American to portray James Bond. So yeah, Elba would be great, he has that special British grit within his character.

Transvestite/non binary/it /they Superman on the cards?

It is uncertain at this time, but a new guard does have its meaning. To think, Cavill posted this on Instagram seven weeks ago,

A very small taste of what’s to come, my friends. The dawn of hope renewed. Thank you for your patience, it will be rewarded.

well, we haven't even seen the dawn, and it's already gone past. I like the other works that Cavill is currently involved in.

I didn't start this thread to diss on things that change, it is only that Cavill gave a lot to these properties and I believe that many people, I included, wished to see where he could take it next.
