Hi all,

I have a question regarding Hepatitis B.

No, I haven't contracted it... just that prior to working on the Ambulances, you HAVE to go for the Hepatitis B shots.

I just wondering if anyone knows how much it costs and where one can go for it (Cape Town area)

I'd like to get it done ASAP.

Having said that, if any MyBB wants to see me scream like a baby, when I go for the shots, bring a camera. ;)

It's a series of 3 shots. You should get a titer check afterwards as well to confirm immunisation.

0 months, 1 month, 6 months is the schedule. You won't get it done ASAP, it will take 6 months.

Who gives it? Some pharmacies have nurses who offer immunizations too. I think Savoy's in Rondebosh/Mowbray does as well - near that police station, on Main Road.

My grandfather died from Hepatitis B. I was young, but one thing I do remember, those shots really burn.

not that bad - had it done before going yomping in the Middle East .

You will live !

Not necessarily. They're not especially painful. Some antibiotics and substances are painful for example when given IM/IV but Engerix B isn't.

LOL, many M-E companies have annual medicals especially for older expats (employees). Guess what is the ONLY test performed for these medicals? AN HIV Test.

and it also depends on who does the injections !

kickass that I really trusted (and still trusts) the doc who gave me my shots :)

OT: Am I right in thinking that this might be a good idea in general getting these shots? Or is it only for those somehow at risk like ambulance crews?

I've had it before... It's nothing.. Your mouth ulcers are a form of hepatitis B. But damn do they hurt

Higher risk for ambulance crews, but yes, it's a general risk, especially if you deal with people in general (touching etc)
