Here is the expected petrol price for August

It's early days (OPEC+ meeting could shake things up drastically) but as it stands, I'd call petrol to rise 14c/l and 50ppm diesel to rise by 51c/l.

BusinessTech is making the same mistake that the AA does, using month-to-date averages and ignoring the fact that petrol has been in daily over recovery (point to a decrease) since Thursday.

Also, 95 and 93 octane petrol will change by the same amount in August. The octane differential only changes once per quarter, not each month.

So basically the significantly lower petrol prices 2 months ago when the country was in total lockdown was a farce...

damn it, at-least I got a diesel now lol

But forced to fill up at engen, even know the truck filling station nearby is so much cheaper. But at-least I get R8 back per litre of diesel.

When there's low (global) demand, (global) fuel prices fall. SA sets petrol and diesel prices based on international prices.

The low prices weren't a farce, they were simply a result of low (global) demand.

And reserves? The SA guavamint bought more than just 2 weeks stockpile at those prices. Comeon!
Pass on the savings to consumer belatedly.

SA dynamic's don't affect the regulated prices, they would only affect forecourt diesel prices, as those aren't regulated.

SA's state oil reserves don't affect prices at all. Remember that its private oil companies which import crude oil and end up selling us fuel. The exception being state-owned Petro which uses natural gas or crude oil and Sasol which uses coal.
