Hermanus riots

This mornings news

Hermanus CPF update 12/07/18 at 06h40 : Swartdam Road from Mbeki to Stil and Schulphoek Road from Mbeki down to sea are closed. The roads are full of rubble and are impassable, authorities hope to begin clearing today. Zwelihle is quiet and peaceful at this stage, and people are currently moving in and out. Cannot yet determine whether or not strike action will continue today.

People were obviously sleeping after a heavy night of smashing things up, so next one....

Hermanus CPF update 12/07/18 at 08h15 : residents of Zwelihle are being prevented from going to work this morning, and there are no taxis running. The burning pile of garbage at the recycling plant is generating a lot of smoke, but is under control. Strong Police and Law Enforcement presence. We continue to be assisted by neighboring Stations.

OFFICE OF THE DA OVERSTRAND CONSTITUENCY HEAD: MASIZOLE MNQASELA MPP

I'm deeply hurt, angry, and saddened. Today was the worst day in the history of a constitutional democracy for the law abiding citizens in Zwelihle, Hermanus.
Two women were escorted to their homes, and witnessed their property being burnt in front of them.
Their cardinal sin, was to go to work to provide for their families. The third lady, when protesters arrived at her house, she told them to dare touch her property, and no one did, they instead fought among themselves and walked away.
Protesters burnt a Community Swimming Pool, a Municipal Waste Transfer Station.
Earlier this week, the same group burnt a Library. The clinic was closed all day today, the sick could not get access to the clinic, and those on chronic medicine could not drink their medication.

This is tantamount to espionage. They have declared war on the state. Law Enforcement Agencies need to restore law order and stability in the area.
Qina Mhlali Qina!!

What was once just sporadic protests is becoming all too common. How long until we're officially in a state of emergency?

Burn baby burn. You cannot deny the savage nature at play. Burn it all down!

Whoever is behind this repair bill is going to be huge. Can’t see how true locals burn the facilities they themselves use. The dynamic is interesting though. How do they co opt the whole damn community. Or at least the majority. It’s like a ****ing plague spreading through the western cape. Somebody should follow the money. This can’t be cheap to coordinate. Funny thought though is that we are probably paying for it via the tax we so diligently pay.

Disregard for property
Disregard for animals
Soon they'll start killing people just like the Marikana rioters, I hope the people of Hermanus are preparing for that eventuality.

We know that if we close the N2 we will get results.
And therein lies the problem. The consequences need to be negative. So if R8 million was allocated for electrification and you run around destroying and stealing causing R5 million in damage, then now there is only R3 million available. Do it again and the community now owes R2 million.

Hermanus CPF update 13/07/18 at 06h30 : the situation in Zwelihle remains unchanged. The area was quiet overnight, and we are not aware of any incidents that took place. Residents are again being prevented from going to work this morning. R43 open, parts of Schulphoek and Swartdam Roads remain closed. SAPS, Law Enforcement and Traffic Officials are in attendance.
