WTF is going on in Durban???

Instead of being praised for their heroism and for saving lives, Durban firefighters who were seriously injured after rescuing more than 200 people from a burning building are to have their salaries docked.

The firefighters are the victims of eThekwini Municipality's recent decision to cut the salaries of those who take leave for injuries on duty from 100 percent to 75 percent.

My brother's a fireman for Durban Metro and told me about this. I think it so sick - where's the motivation for fireman to risk their lives for the general public?

Apparently the decision to reduce the medical cover was done without consulting with the firefighters themselves.

Only in South Africa, but our government get paid big salaries and bonuses for doing nothing. In Zimb, they get no pay if off sick.

Anyone notice later in the article where it says that Metro Police are under the same restrictions? Don't expect anyone rushing to help you if you're in trouble. They've said as much themselves.
