We recently moved to the Dinokeng game reserve just outside Pretoria. Herotel have a antenna up probably 3 or 4 km from our farm on a 40m tower.
Many of the neighbours all around us use them so it's the first ISP I contacted, plus their pricing looks good and all neighbours also confirmed they don't go down during load shedding unlike Rain, Vodacom and MTN.
The techies rocked up to scout for signal, I told them I think the tank stand which is 6m high will be the ideal spot, so they got on the tank stand to check, a while later they came back down and said sorry no can do, they won't be able to help me.
Apparently there are trees in the way, but please explain to me how trees can be in the way if aiming from a 6 meter tank stand to a 40 meter tower. It gets better, the neighbour directly next to us further away from the tower as well as the neighbours next to them also use Herotel, both of them have their installations on 3 to 4m poles and if looking at the lay of the land they sit lower than me.
I heard from quite a few people that I'm not the first to experience this from Herotel in this area, that it's their MO if they don't see your business as been worth their while. Thing is, in my application I opted for a 2 Mb down, 1 Mb up package, the slowest they offer, just to actually try it out first. But I intend to upgrade to at least 10 to 15 Mb down come December or January since I need it for work and I made this very clear to them.
They are currently running a promotion where the usual R1500 installation is free, so they probably thought spending R1500 on me and then only getting R299 from me per month isn't worth it.
Where ever I go I will discourage people from doing business with this useless company, even before this it was a huge struggle just to get emails answered by the sales person.
