Hi All,

I tried Vodacom for the first time. My cell phone indicates 3G for my area.
I used Vodacom data for downloading or browsing.

I started of with R54.00 airtime, not converted to data.
After last evening I have R12.00 balance left.
Before every body jumps in I know R2.00 per megabyte.
Used R42.00 at 21MB data.

Looking at download data what I paid does not make sense.
I down loaded CPUZ and DownthemAll less than 500Kb.
I browsed open a couple of web-pages.
Downloaded a usage monitor 1.6MB. Cant remember the name.
Was on one of the forums.

I run WinXP64 on my system.
What needs to switched off to hinder any downloads which you are not aware off.

I run an anti-virus program and use firefox as browser.

What speed can I expect with 3G, I use my nokia N70 as modem.

Regards

Jochen
PS I know a lot of question asked.

Because you use firefox, install the adblock plus plugin.
So when you browsing web pages, none of the ads get loaded, will save you some bandwidth there.

If you really wanna limit bandwidth usage, install ImgLikeOpera plugin, you can set it to not load any pictures, or put in filters to just load images on the sites you want images loaded. And you can also just right click to load a particular image if thats the only image you want to view on a webpage.

The other guys will tell you what to switch off etc to hinder downloads. Off the top of my head, auto updates for windows and for your Anti Virus software.

Yes, a lot of questions there, here are some simple answers to those questions :).

Rather use pre-paid data bundles than pay ZAR2.00/MB - see the sticky FAQ thread for info about [searchforum]PPDBs[/searchforum].

What are the download and upload specs for an N70 cellphone?

Use http://speed.vodacom.co.za/ and http://speedtest.net/ as well as something like [searchforum]DUMeter[/searchforum] to see what throughput you are getting, also have a look at the apps listed in the sticky thread for monitoring data usage - [searchforum]NetLimiter Monitor[/searchforum] does exactly that on a per-process basis.

...and make sure Windows Updates are turned off.

Always catches me when connect a machine that's been offline for a while. Windows updates start downloaing silectly in the background

Usage

Hi All,

What I also tried to tell is looking at your windows connection rate as well phone download usage.
They all should tie up to more or less.

Windows in Bits and phone in KB.

I have to do exercise on this.

Tnx for all the replies will implement some of them.

Other question:
How reliable is Vodacom 3G network. Should I do a couple of test before I continue? any recommendation will appreciated.

Regards

Jochen

Hi All,

Was to quick to say billing is incorrect.
It is spot on.
My phone shows all downloads, usage.
If I do the calculation all is correct.
