Hey guys.
As per the title we mounted a LCD tv above the fireplace *which is never used by the way* and i must say it looks pretty damn classy. Issues comes now with hiding cables which is easier said than done considering the houses in S.A are all brick/concrete and not that drywall rubbish the yanks have.

This product on youtube is looks like a not so terrible solution

Use ecotubing (not sure of spelling), you can get it from an electrical shop.

Use that wall thingy they use for network cables - I plan on doing the same at my new house, just into the roof...

I've seen a really classy-looking half-round polished aluminium variant of the plastic trunking used for data/electrical cables, in a hi-fi shop in Menlyn. They run it straight down the wall from from the bottom of the TV to the equipment below.

I reckon it would look pretty good installed

Are you referring to the trunking that the network cables go into?

I'm thinking of that because its really cheap for a 3meter length. The only downside to that is it isn't as flat as the cable hider they're using. But it should only cost around R15 per length. It isn't difficult to mount it either.. you just need a drill with some nail in plugs and drill the trunking into the wall

Im looking for somethings quite flat to go along the left and right side of wall and then get painted over just like in the video. I can run the cables downwards as they will end up in the fireplace :p

Due to the the way the room was built and DSTV installed. The wall socket for the power is on the far right wall and the DSTV coax cable comes down the far left. We used to have a large unit which used to cover the entire wall where the fireplace is so hiding cables wasnt an issue. Now that its gone we just have a mess of wires hanging around.

Yeh - the network trunking thing :)

When I move - I want only power and HDMI cables running to the TV. I don't mind it standing out to much - the thinner flatter thing would be nice, I think I've done a network install with this sorta thing, need to find out where they got it, I'll update if I do.

That looks more like the normal network trunking?

Did a project once where it was about twice as wide, and half as shallow - ran along the top of the ceiling (against the wall).

Oh ok, I'm not sure what is used for normal network trunking, I'm only used to using the bigger trunking. But that shallow trunking will be nice for hiding your because it won't stand out so much :)

but yeah, have a look at Voltex. They should stock the different trunkings

Get a angle grinder and cut two lines into a wall wide/deep enough to fit pvc conduit. Chip out brick and plaster between two lines with a hammer and chissel. Create holow section for receptical outlet on wall. Install pvc conduit & recepticle, run wires. Plaster and repaint wall.

With the above method you will never know it's there except for the outlet recepticle which is behind the lcd.

This will yield the most professional looking job of anything you could attempt.
