Higgs boson found!

So what are they going to do with it once they find it ?

I guess you missed Back to the future II & III?

Well simply put Higgs = mass = is where gravity comes from, so in 3 years time they will have mastered it and we will be able to get hoverboards.

you're on your own there bud. But perhaps Nessie's g-spot?

serious question why is so important to find this boson and why does it have to be that exact basson, I mean they found one so close to what they looking for

No.

I can believe that they found the Higgs Boson, what I can't believe is that they announced it using Comic Sans.

Well they do the work they can choose the font. Simple as that.

If this turns out to not be the SM Higgs Boson, then that is correct, they would need to be updated, which is why this discovery is pretty huge whether it's the Higgs or not.

Well there are a few more places that it could be "hiding" iirc.

You already do. All the time.

Only if it exists of which there is no real proof just yet. <this might need editing in the next year or two :p>

They have not found the SM Higgs Boson. They have found a particle which is a Boson, with the same mass as the Higgs Boson is expected to have and they're within 5s certain that it is the Higgs Boson but there are still outstanding tests to be completed before they can say with certainty that this is the SM Higgs Boson

Quote a newsworthy source maybe? Because all that's been discovered is something that might resemble a Higg's boson

You gotto love that saying. Regardless of what it is, its something new, so yes books needs to change but that's the nature of science the books get updated all the time.

Its not a religion where people keep the same book and just change the translation.

cue the online hippies:

"I don't like Wikipedia, you know? Like, anyone can edit the information and it's always changing, and it's like, so unreliable."

Ban books, give the money to wikipedia, give everyone internet. you've just saved humanity

Im pretty sure it exists. Something gives us mass.

Well if you were a theoretical physicist with lots of data to prove that it exists, then that statement would make a difference:p

As to giving things mass... there are alternative theories.

And we know something is giving us mass but it does not have to be the HB-particle.

LOL it seemed to make him upset for some reason, kuk funny though. Some people will never believe intelligent life exists outside our puny planet.

i think we believe intelligent life has a chance of existing outside of our planet, but believing intelligent life turns people into donkies, orders them to get circumcised, builds pyramids, anal probes them, are lizard people hidiing in human skin, no

I dont need to be. I have mass ergo something is giving me mass. Its kinda that simple.
