Can I mount the radiator outside the case or does it have to be on the inside? Would it fit inside a NZXT Guardian 921RB and are there any other water coolers under $150 that can outperform it?
I would put in a SSD, bigger power supply like 850W, and match the motherboard to processor. If you are willing to wait for 3770k then wait for the matching chipsets that unlock all its functionality. Oh and not to forget newer graphics cards, the 7800 series as some have mentioned.
Option 2, buy 2nd hand current generation parts as soon as the new ones are out. There will be people desperate to upgrade and you can score a huge bargain, like 85% performance for 65% cost. Then you can upgrade in 2 yrs even! Get everything apart from cpu, motherboard and ram new or now since those stay constant between rebuilds.
For $150 you can get a proper loop instead of a sealed unit. Will shave off another 10 degrees easy
You pay a massive premium to get really high-end stuff, which then loses it value really quickly. What are you going to do with this PC that an i5-2500K couldn't handle right now?

Get a custom loop.
My buddy upgraded to a custom XSPC loop from a Corsair H70. Got a 15C drop!!!!
That build ought to last you a lot of years.

I don't trust myself with the coolant lol. Might spill it on the CPU or other components.![]()
Where do you stay? I'll help if you're in CT.
And even if you do it yourself, its easy to get it right. Just seat the heatsink as normal, tube everything up, tighten all fittings, and leak test with power off for 12-24 hours. No leaks after that and you're all set
