High-end Gaming Monitors in SA?

Seriously guys, I don't know if any of you have noticed, but the option to purchase a high-end gaming monitor in SA is almost non-existent. Last year, I entered the world PC gaming and purchased the Samsung S27A950DS from a Samsung store, primarily for its ability to reach 120Hz, and at that time nearly all online PC-related retailers could source it.

Earlier this year, my house was broken into and robbed of all electronics (Right down to my universal remote... yeah, SA's robbers are very thorough). I knew that I was not going to able to get back into PC gaming for a while so I didn't purchase my monitor right away.

A few weeks ago, I decided to get back into PC gaming and started upgrading my PC for my long-awaited return, however, I was in for such a headache. Firstly, the Samsung S27A950DS went EOL and absolutely no retailer could source them. So I decided to look for an alternative... and then it hit me; there are no more high-end monitors available :wtf:

The best that is currently available is the Samsung S27B550V and the Dell U2713HM (Which I don't consider to be a gaming monitor due to its input lag issues). And that is it. One 1080p 60Hz monitor and one 1440p monitor which isn't even suited for gaming. Where's the options? Where's the choices for people who want higher frame rates?

Currently, Phoenix-Tech SA is offering people the choice to import some ASUS gaming monitors, but at a hefty import charge. For example, the ASUS VG278HE (Which isn't a fantastic monitor, but I forgave it because of its impressive refresh rate) is going to run you down for R6900, when it is available in the USA for about R4000. Going further than that, we find some BenQ displays for the better part of eight thousand!

So here I am, sitting with an OC'ed i5 3570k, dual 7950's and a custom loop, yet I cannot push my system to let it deliver the visual wonders that it is capable of. What do you guys think? Shouldn't distributors make a better effort to bring in higher-end displays? And if you have found any high-end displays, please provide a link so that I can put my displeasure to rest.

Why don't you just buy one from amazon.com or .co.uk and have a mail box forwarding company forward it to you.

Another alternative is to just get a 32inch HDTV that does 120Hz.
There is currently a Samsung one at Game that does 100Hz CMR for R3499

Also the 3570K is a i5 not i7.

Sorry about the typo. I have never imported an item before, so I do not know how to proceed with such a situation (customs, registration of item, etc).

I usually shy away from using TVs as monitors as they achieve higher frame rates via interpolation and not actually receiving higher frame rates from the GPU.

There is more than enough information and reviews from forum members about myUS, you just need to search for it, it can be daunting but you gotta do what you gotta do to get what you want.

There is more than enough information and reviews from forum members about myUS, you just need to search for it, it can be daunting but you gotta do what you gotta do to get what you want.

I was looking around and came across http://www.ipsledmonitors.com/ These guys sell some pretty good displays and don't charge a lot for shipping. Even if you aren't in the market for a new display, you should check it out for future reference.

I have the exact same monitor as you (had), and I haven't seen another monitor that catches my eye. I have a friend who uses an LG Gaming monitor, and the quality does not even get close to matching my monitor.
You might have to save up and rather import one.

I definitely agree with you. Despite using a TN panel, the colour reproduction was nothing short of perfect. I never really bothered with the 3D features, but simply playing any game with that smooth frame-rate and pristine clarity made me love that Samsung. As much as I want to get that same monitor, even importing it is going to cost a lot as Samsung has stopped production of it worldwide. Importing one would cost, including shipping, close to R9000.

The really sad part about this Oliver, is that Samsung does not intend on making a true replacement. They have declared their 1440p monitor as the replacement... No higher refresh rates, no 3D features and no mouth-watering design. I am glad to have owned that monitor as it was one of the best purchases I have ever made.
