We are currently considering getting a new generator for our small business.
We pull about 4KW of load from a Ryobi 7900K. its about 5 years old now and has served us well.
For the most part we are happy with it, but with having to run it around 2 hours a day, we have seen some power supplies pop at higher frequency (but that could just be the load shedding). You would also notice that some of the lights in the building will flicker slightly when on generator.
Now we could just go and buy another Ryobi 7900K (R12-25k) and retire our 5 year old one for use as a backup, or for around double the money, we can go buy a similar capacity small diesel generator (something like a Bundupower 6500 or similar chinese engine diesel). I know we will save some money on fuel, but at current consumption, it will still be more than a year to break even on the higher upfront cost and they are quieter, which is a plus.
What has been your experience with small diesel generators been vs petrol generators?
