My home latency when playing WoW is 300-400 while my world latency is 300. Are those normal numbers? Can I reduce my home latency somehow?

The lowest my latencies have been are 297 home and 270 world - which is still terrible.

Running Telkom 384 capped.

Yeah I know, I'm getting webafrica 1mb 25g capped as soon as I can, but that might be as long as end of March. So any short term solutions to my home latency would rock.

My 22m LAN cable is a little bit damage but I don't think that could effect it? Perhaps? Is it worth a try of setup closer to my modem?

I don't quite grasp what you mean by "Home" or "World" latency?
Are you saying that your latency from your PC to your router is almost 300ms !?

Using a LAN cable, even if it is 90m, should give you a latency of under 1ms from your PC to your router.

Could you run the following command within Command Prompt and then post the results (output) here?
Code:
tracert status.wow-europe.com

I get round about the same on a 10mb ADSL line, not much more you can do I'm afraid. Have you tried a proxy service like BattlePing? I used to use them when I was having TELKOM issues and it helped a bit (apart from the 1hr disconnects as I was using the trial service)

try webafrica trail , im sure it will be better, telkom international latency is not as good as it was.

Disable all your addons and then try again. Add only the addons you need, not the ones you may need some day.

What does my tracert say? is my internet bad or what?

I disabled about 31 mbs of addons and no difference. Blizzard says I need to delete addons/interface and data cache/cache folders. Will that help?

I can't download anything again it'll take weeks and weeks of downloading.

Hi

Your trouble comes in on the 7th Hop, That telkom exchange might have high traffic volume or has some issues..., Changing your service provider would not change this latency....

I've ran the same tracert from an 4096k business uncapped from IS and a standard IS 1024k uncapped accounts,
as soon as it gets to capetown and then internation, the latency goes up, the last hop is 298ms on business uncapped and 342ms on standard.....

Seems like this is the normal latency then?

Pada, in the game world of warcraft, the latency meter tells you about 2 types of latency.
1st is home latency, which is the realm your character was created on, ei. EU-Sylvanas, or EU-Twilight's Hammer ect.
2nd is world latency, which is the current server your character is ported to, ie, if you are doing a dungeon called Molten Core, your character gets transported to a server on which this dungeon server is running on.

So latency for actions are bound to the latency you have for world, and any chat or ingame-voice-chat ect are all routed through your home server, which are bound to that for latency. Generally speaking home latency in this game is usually lower than world latency, but in the last few months they seemed quite even to me.

300ms is about alright, however I think Telkom latencies can be around ~280ms where as Web Africa latencies can be around ~180ms.

The best thing you can do, that is not a gaming vpn that cost money, is apply leatrix latency fix:
I suggest using it from this addon page:
http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info13581-2.0.2.0.html
ps. the above URL does the work explained on the page that bin3 pasted, all in all MUCH easier than manually editing the registry yourself.

Apply, reboot your pc, and test latency again.

In my case it was which region I was playing to, to US I averaged with battleping 300 to 600ms to EU with battleping 180 to 240ms, all from the same ISP etc.

I tried Leatrix in the past, it didn't make much difference.

My friend has Mweb 1mb uncapped and he gets 150-180 ms home, so it can't be cape town can it?

I really want faster internetttttt

I tried battleping and I'm connected to England server, not sure if that's right but my latency is the same, if not worse.

You'll have to add at least 20ms to the Cape Town guys' latencies if you're in like Jhb area with the same kind of ISP account.

180ms to EU is very good. The best you'll be able to get is probably around 150-160ms.

No. The latency on that hop is due time it takes for the light to travel along the fibre undersea cables. 220-240ms is the latency via Seacom and EASSy to London.

If you use an ISP that routes via SAT-3 then the latency to London could be under 180ms but most people won't pay the higher price of the SAT-3 data. ;)

We're never going to reduce that latency by much unless there's some SERIOUS continental drift.
