High Internet costs making headlines

WTF is a shareholding gonna do when there is some uber tsunami?

A smart (but not greedy) government would just nationalise the thing in the disaster period, while a greedy (but stupid) one would use it as a cashcow that screws the people and limits economic growth so that the country collapses eventually and then its really a disaster...

Man, the DoC reasons (and people that work there) are SOOOO stupid.

RE: My post in the other thread, sorry about duplicating this but I think theres a serious flaw in her statement and evil smirk she maintained during the interview.

Can someone look up the actuall legal situation about this "On behalf of the South African Public" story. If those shares are owned by the "public" then howcome we dont get any say in the matter or how things are run. Theoretically we then have a major say in all three of the major telecoms companies in SA, surely we the public can then vote on say something like them dropping interconnection charges. If what the DOC is spewing forth is truth then we, the South African public, have the biggest share in the telecoms market in South Africa. Now, about that conflict of interest...

Surely in the event of a national emergency or crisis the government can nationalize pretty much anything it wants?

TSUNAMI COMMENT: Until the SNO actually exists governmint must own a large enough chunk in teklom to prevent them from ignoring the regulations and controls put in place. This is a valid argument, you all witness teklom's greed on a daily basis. What this has to do with a disaster only the wierdest mind can fathom.

Otherwise ... I am extremely sorry for missing the interview. DAMMIT.
/me waits for re-run.

According to the show the government owns significant chunks in the SNO, Telkom, MTN, Vodacon and Sentech.

Their bread is buttered on every conceivable side.

ADSL Delivery

My frustrations are reaching peak. I applied for ADSL on the 19th of Dec and have not been able to establish a date on when they can anticipate my installation been completed. I have called the help Desk 24 times each time holding on for a min of 15 mins. The worst being when I had called 20 minutes before closing of business hours getting a message saying "please hodl for the next available agent.." eventually at close of business, still holding on, I got another message saying"Our business hours are... please call back then" I nearly hit the roof. Almost everytime I have called since February the operator has indicated that someone will call me back. Not one person from Telkom has contacted me. I have been in contact with the supervisor Nur Peters ([email protected]) via email and have emailed him fifteen times requesting a name of someone who can help and although he says he will provide me the details he has not done this. I have called the complaints line I have left messages on the Cape Town number 0214144865. I have posted complaints on the Telkom website and yet no-one has contacted me. Does anyone have any advise on where I can go with this:?

Cant guarantee 100% accuracy, but I did a lot of digging to get these numbers:

- Complaints: 0800 600 126
- Rashika 031-363-3350 Telkom Comercial Services Dep (billing)

- 10219 - (Telkom NEWServices)
- 0800-456-786 (ADSL Call center - Cape Town
- 021-414-4865 - Nur Peters (ADSL Call Center Manager - Cape Town
- 012-680-6314 - Ilona van Wyk (ADSL Orders Manager - Pretoria
- 012-680-7885 - Rajes (ADSL Scheduling Manager - Pretoria)

Hope this helps!

You do have a say mavx, when you vote in the elections, at least thats what this woman would probably tell you.
I am surprised that CB never pushed the issue further with her, I mean really, with those kinds of answers, rofl.

My htpc should have recorded it :D Don't know how i could ever live without it.

i would have offered to upload it, but that would be illegal.

‘for the people’ means little when 'the people' want cheaper telecoms costs and the DoC delay at every point possible declaring they protecting their investment. If its 'the peoples' investment, and the people want cheaper telecoms give it, else it just shows who's investment it really is.

Some things speak volumes without needing further intervention. :D

Just want to let you know that they didn't tackle the issue, they merely showed the public what is going on. Nothing is going to change.... I have built a bridge and gotten over it!

For the people my arse. Saying "For the people" is the biggest political gimmick of all time...

George W.: "We're bombing Iraq for the people."
George Snr: "We're declaring war for the people."
Hitler: "Deutschland über alles for the people!"
Mad Bob: "Farmlands for the people!"

It's the greatest bollocks to ever be spoken. Soon enough, you'll hear those same worrying people saying "The group is more important than a single person." as an excuse to justify bad treatment.

Bah.
