Hi

I get a high ping when i play games, especially cod4. Its from 85-110. usually arround 100. I have a 384kbps line and a axxess, wage and telkom account. My friends in my area get a 62ping. I dont know how to fix this anyone have an idea?

Thanks in advance

Nope nothing. Its been for this for quite a few months. There are a few days (really just a few) that I get a 70 ping. But after a while it goes back up. Really annoying

Make sure no one else in your house (if any) is downloading anything.

Also the main reason for high ping is that you are probably playing on servers which aren't in South Africa.

Try connecting to a local server. (unless you are already then I don't know what to recommend besides changing your ISP)

that is my speed test.

@Leroy. yes im the only one on the network and no applications are running in the background. And im playing on local servers (wage, igame, sgs)

@Sharkbait, They have reseted my port but that was a while ago ill try that again see if it works

I get 62ms(speedtest.net) on a 384k line openweb account. but when I play bf2 its jump too 300-1000ping I don't understand this. And yes it is local saix servers.

Check error rates on the modem page and use a geographically close server so SGS if youre in GP, Wage if youre in CPT.

And don't really on speedtest ping numbers...they're wrong. Use pingtest or just cmd->ping instead.

@Nokkie BF measure both directions, so you need to halve the number.

Hmmm the weirdest part of that is that you are still playing bf2 :p :p
Sorry for the off topic but are the servers still populated? I think I need to reinstall and come SRAW some people.

sorry I meant BF2bad company.

meh seems normal to me:

At the OP, compare your results to mine and you shall see your problem :D, I'm on 384k Cybersmart

My sympathies then :p

384k is a 192kbps up pipe which means theoretical max is 24KB/s. I remember achieving 20Kbps as a ceiling and I used to allow only a max of 15Kbps. 10Kbps is half of norm and your up is generally not affected by shaping.

Ah ok, did that change? They used to be 384/196, 512/256, 4000/512. Or is it a account limitation?

*EDIT* My bad, seems my memory is failing me. Ignore the remarks on 384k.
