Hijack Risk and VW Polos

So, it is common knowledge that VW Polos are at a somewhat higher hijack risk owing to their popularity. My insurance broker even said so.

Would that put any of you off buying one? How would it feature in your decision making?
 
My opinion:

Sure VWs have a higher hijack risk than the rest but if a guy is going to hijack you it is going to happen whether you like it or not. As for how it would feature in my decision making: it would affect me in terms of my effective repayments. That is my finance obligations and my insurance payments. If I can get the same or better deal on another car that has similar specs/performance for the amount of cash I have to fork out (finance + insurance) I'd rather take the other car. I enjoy certain VWs (Scirocco) but you can't really put a price on peace of mind when it comes to personal safety.
 
I have owned 4 Polos and the hijack risk has never been a concern.

I really believe that you draw negativity towards you - just be aware of what is going on around you, don't park in dodgy areas and you should be fine.

People who drive around waiting to be hijacked seem to draw hijackers towards them.

Lol but I understand what you mean. Your behaviour affects your risk of hijacking.

What's the market share on VW Polos? That not possibly why there's a higher hijack risk?
 
I think the risk is assessed per 1000 owners or something - in other words, to remove the effects of the larger pool of owners.
 
I've noticed that with the exception of the Audi Q series, the majority of cars hijacked or used in crime are the most popular. Toyota (Fortuners, Yaris), BMW (3 series), Mercedes (C class), VW (Polo, Golfs), Nissan (Tiidas), and more recently Hyundai (Getz, i20s and IX35s) and Kia (Picanto, Sportage) etc
 
Three things that should be your lowest priority when buying a vehicle : hijack risk, resale value and perceived quality.
 
Because cars are not an investment so why bother trying to treat it as such? Buy something unique that is an extension of your personality and not something you see everyday on the road. About the perceived quality, that is the biggest hoax in cars of the past decade.

That covers resale value and perceived quality, both of which I agree with.

But why ignore risk?
 
Because risk is automatically covered if you buy something unique and not a "school uniform" car.

What is different about the Audi Q series? I just bought a Q5 last week
