They're not as popular as the other SUVs listed. There was a spate of crimes committed using a Q5 and Q7 in the highway area in Durban a short while back.

Even if you do get hijacked, just give them the car and claim from insurance. Thats why we pay so much for insurance. I dont think those guys want to kill anyone, so just give them the car and you'l be fine. Another thing, if you really love your car you can just activate/download the tracking app on your android/apple phone. Then you can track your phone when the cops arrive (keep it off you while driving) Personally I wouldn't want the car back though...
 
VW is :sick: anyway. Rather get something proper :D

I can't afford the repayments on that.

I'm looking at a Polo Comfortline 1.6 or a Peugeot 208 HDI Active.

There is a steep discount on Polos at the moment. But, there is a discount available on the Peugeot, and it comes with service plan and maintenance plan as standard. Plus, being a diesel it has much more torque.

EDIT: Also, what interest rate would I likely be offered? I have a very good credit rating. I have been using a credit card for almost all purchases every month for the last 4 years, and paying off the balance every month. I am also on my second cellphone contract, and have a home loan. Could I get less than prime?

I want a 60 month loan.

I most definitely look at the hijacking risk when buying a car, so i actually do not purchase VW, BMW, Audi,etc.
I prefer making the chances of a hijacking as low as possible, so will never buy a high risk car
 
Should I get the 84kW diesel or the 68kW diesel? R30k difference and the more expensive one has some upgraded features, including sat nav, dual zone climate control instead of manual aircon, automatic wipers and automatic headlights.

At the moment, I'm not sure I see the point in spending the extra money.
 
@Ancalagon - not sure what interest rate you'll get, but your record does sound decent. Deposit may also play a factor in the interest rate, but I'm not all that sure. Also, is it your first time financing a car? Best bet would be to phone around and find out what you could get.

Stay away from Peugeot. A work colleague had to get the dual mass flywheel replaced on her 207 1.6 HDi. R19,000. The car only has R75,000km. The is gearbox now noisy. She also had to get the steering column replaced because the original one was never fitted correctly at the factory.

My ex boss was driving along Victoria Road in Camps Bay when his rear disc pads fell out on his 206. Callipers to bare metal. Apparently the clips that hold them in 'are known to fail'. Repair costs were also horrendous.
 
Isn't there an update to the polo coming with a better engine? Might be why they are heavily discounted. Remember reading something like this.

Peugeot can be a hit and miss. Personally our Peugeot was a disaster. But every 1 out of 1000 you get a gem that gives you many years of good service :>D
