Hiking to Everest Base Camp

Okay, so there are a few members on the forum that are aware that in just over 2 weeks time I'm heading off to Nepal to hike up to Everest Base Camp (EBC).

I'm starting this thread in response to a request to start a thread about this adventure (I will make posts along the way if and when I get access to the interwebz)

Anybody that may have done this already that has any tips, I'd be glad to hear from you.

Questions are also welcome

I'm assuming you will have someone carry your stuff for you? It's definitely worth the expense, makes it a little bit easier for you.

current long range forecasts put the weather at about 16 during the day down to -4/-6 overnight, I'm fairly resilient to cold, the missus on the other hand...

That's a definite, I've managed to get hold of a rig that will keep my camera strapped to my chest for easy access, I'll be testing it out this weekend

REally? That sounds almost too cheap. How many days are this? Kilimanjaro costs about the same, and that's actually in Africa.

I'll check again, might be understating flight costs, am using locals in Nepal for everything else @ $1250, so the exchange rate does have an influence

Emirates gave me a quote of R22500. Flights are getting expensive these days.

Ooh, not bad. I found an intl one offering SAA+Emirates for 1000 euros. Emirates on their own is pretty pricey then.
