Anyone here have much experience with Hikvision cameras.

Basically my only real requirement is that there is some kind of motion detection - - I sort of presume they all have that. The main want is when the alarm goes off we can remotely tell if it's fine and bypass that sensor (olarm!)

I already have a Hikvision intercom /door bell (Hik KIS302-P) and use that Hik-connect app to view and open the door. I'd rather keep using that (or olarm?) for any additional cameras.

So should I go for a poe like camera which are like R2000 each or an older style kit with dvr (feels like I can get 4 Channel 4 cam kit for less than one poe camera).

some more minor points
- already have the Hik KIS302-P... Can I just add cameras to that with or without a dvr? If so which ones?
- would be handy to have one with a light, I. E. Our car port is pretty dark, so could do with a light anyway...
-- do any have relays in them to open / pulse the drive way gate like the remotes? (or should I do that from my intercom?)

I bought a Ezviz h3c 4MP for my entrance area and I'm really happy with it. Price was also really good. I'd say the only real issue is that you can't block out areas that you don't want the motion capturing to detect.
In my case I could position it so it misses the road so its not a problem.

It has IR and LED lighting, speaker and mic to talk to delivery people etc.

What app do you use for viewing? Does it have any handy features?

Just using the ezviz app not sure if it will work with hikvision but its manufactured by them. I didn't opt for the cloud service but added a SD card.
I can connect to the camera from anywhere and see what's going on, watch the ai human detected recordings, speak to delivery people, switch on/off the led light/IR light, it has an alarm but I dont use that.

Are you looking for a specific feature?

So quick research it can be accessed in the same hikconnect app which adds a sense of intrege for me.

Downside. I've generally not had good luck with WiFi cameras before (ring door bell was just was crap for me), so I think I would rather have a wired ethernet camera, but could be persuaded... (particularly if it's near the router)

I have a few iot devices around so I have 4 AP's to make sure I cover everything.

Wired is never a bad idea if you can get a cable to where it needs to be.
I bought this cam thinking if it doesn't work well enough I would just move it somewhere less important but its been perfect for my needs.

Anyone else?

I just can't understand which cameras I could connect to the spare door and camera feeds on the intercom KIS302-P

4 wire hybrid? What is that when I am looking for additional cameras?

Stay away from motion detection cameras. They will drive you insane. You WILL disable the motion detection feature eventually, I can gaurantee you.

The only part that I may agree with is if you don't want 24-365 recording and thus want to record when there is motion. But you won't find motion detection useful for notifications AT ALL, unless you can gaurantee that the camera won't look at anywhere useful 99% of the time. .

Bugs, clouds, lights coming on, lights coming off, cats, birds, wind, trees - all of these will trigger the motion detection in the camera. Doesn't matter how accurately you try and tweak it and use it with zones etc.

I would:
1) Proper outdoor cameras made for the elements (Reolink / EZVIZ / Hikvision, probably some other brands). Don't expect a plastic body to stay working in our sun and weather.
2) Buy a camera with an ethernet cable unless you REALLY can't lay a cable to that point. I have mostly Hikvision POE ones except for one EZVIZ camera that I have to run via WiFi due to it being on the other side of a driveway. And for this I had to get anohter AP mounted in my garage closest to that driveway.
3) Buy a camera with some sort of person detection. You really only want to trigger the camera when it picks up a person or a car. All of the brands have this now.
4) Storage for recordings.... tough choice. Many SD card enabled cameras, but I've had SD cards fail on me. PErhaps get a bunch extra and be ready to swop them out.

Sorry, I don't know much about the intercom...

I've had Hikvison, Provision, Dahua, Ezviz etc etc

They are basically the same Chinese crap and by the way all software is cheap and junk. .

IMO
Ethernet & POE with NVR is the best way to go.
I will never do WiFi, and battery again or recording to a SD.

I'm now using TP Link and they are the best so far.

I've got connected to my 2 TV's one in lounge and main bedroom. Flick the TV on and you can see wherever the camera's are. When not watching TV and while awake my CCTV is always on the TV.
Recording is the best and continuous. I don't use motion detection for reasons mentioned above in the thread. For motion I have lighting.
The sun does mess up the lenses over time and a electric fence can and probably will interfere with picture and stability so a junction box is your ideal base for fitment or the houses trusses.
I have and never will allow a TP install any electronic security to my home - not even a security company. The can come insert their antenna and that's it.

Not everyone will agree with me but that's my 2c and I've had various CCTV systems for many years.

Sheesh I hope you didn't pay R15,212,464.59/kg... ;)

Jokes aside, they do seem quite cheap? Build quality good?

We have hikvision and olarm.

When the alarm goes off it tells us what zone and I can check the cameras on my phone using the hikvision app to check is its a false alarm.

Works well

So that's a manual check right... I. E. Olarm goes off zone 4 - front door.
So then you look at the camera that covers the front door?

Or do you have some smarter link e.g. Hikvision app pushes the right camera?

Manual check

Anybody with a newer DS-7108HGHI-M1 model that can check if the "attached picture" option is there under email settings?
The manual shows it but the DVR does not have it

Due to the way my house is situated, I only need one outside camera that can cover a 10m x 14m area, but of too big of an area, a standard sliding gate amd driveway, but would prefer the entire area.

My second requirement:
I would like to have control over it and the video recordings. And not some random chinese person.

My third requirement:
It would be nice if I could view from my phone whenever I want to.

I have no experience with cameras, just dont want to overpay for something and dont wamt a POS.

What other supporting devices would I need?

Most manufacturers would satisfy the above. Most of their NVR's come with phone apps that can remote access it.

As for covering that kind of area, I would think you would either:
1. Need a panoramic camera
2. Use a fish eye camera (bad advice)
3. Play around with placement (either higher up or at a strategic point) - 2.8mm camera's can generally have a ~140 degree view.

I have a dahua 8 port NVR.
I don't particularly want to run 8 network cables from the roof to the DVR . Can they not be plugged into Poe switch in the roof with one cable going to the NVR?
