Hikvision SSDs

I've also bought a Hikvision E100 1TB SSD in Aug 2021 and it has just died on me. Busy installing a game from Steam and gave me write error, restarted the PC and it posted but nothing happened, waited and the drive was just gone. I've fiddeld around but can not do anything.

Any assistance/advice in returning it to Evetech?

If you worked in the space why aren’t you encrypting your data so that this isn’t any concern in the first place?

The E2000 is pretty much the same as the Sabrent Rocket drives, which is also similar to Gigabyte's NVMe SSDs. These have Phison controllers, some amount of DRAM, and Toshiba 3D NAND. There are firmware differences, and Sabrent is particularly aggressive about speeds.

EDIT: And I believe the E100 series is using Toshiba NAND.

Toshiba is a good company. We have a 2013 notebook with a Toshiba 256GB SSD and it's still in great shape.

The first attempt at encryption failed before transferring data, thinking it was just a temp issue I (i.e. OS was freshly setup and possibly required some updates) moved the data from a failing disk over to encrypt after to prevent data loss or a lengthy recovery from archives.
 
Been using 1TB version for close to 2 years, no issues whatsoever (E100).
 
Hikvision E1000 user here, working perfectly and the PC has "been on" for over two years (excluding power outages and loadshedding)

Ive also made efforts to preserve the NVMe by moving the page file to another drive.
 
I grabbed a Hikvision E3000 1TB off Evetech (risky, but decently priced).

Picks up in my bios, will test it shortly and see how it hold up. The only thing I'm annoyed about is it's not detected in ESXI as available storage - so I may have to do some digging, find out which rebranded hardware they use and slipstream those drivers in to my ESXI install.
 
Anyone running the E3000 in Linux (and if so mind sharing your kernel version)...

It crashes for me in Ubuntu 22.04, SuSE Leap 15.4, oVirt, Fedora 36.

According to this I can see it's working on a few distro's - so I'm trying to find out if I've got a broken unit or the controller is just super finnicky:

NOTE: I can see the drive in the BIOS, can install to it, but when booting in to the OS it hangs after a minute or so.

nuke it in the microwave.
 
Evetech checked the drive, came back after 1 day, and offered to replace it.
I told them I no longer trust the brand and was issued a store credit, thanks evetech for good service but luckily I didn't lose any important data...

As much as I dislike Evetech due to their past warranty practices, credit where it's due, they seem to have handled yours pretty well.
Glad you got a good outcome.
 
Off topic but anyone know if the Hikvision E3000 1TBis any better?

Initially i had a similar experience, it would boot into Ubuntu 22.04, then show the first line where disk is checked, then stopped/hung up. I changed my Bios settings to pure UEFI mode, reinstalled just to be sure, - took all of 4 minutes to reinstall - and it came up perfectly. It is freakin fast for an old dog like me. :)
 
I know this is old, but just in case anyone else ends up here with the same question:

Do not buy HiKvision SSDs. They age like milk, and just as fast.
I'm a dealer for a South African supplier who is a distributor for these SSDs, and I'm shocked at how fast they die.
I've written off so many of these drives; smaller ones, used mostly in pretty un-stressful situations like point of sale), but recently sent a 1TB back to the supplier after it barely lasted one year.
Today, another sudden death. Aged less than a year.

If you plan to stick any important data on your SSD, don't risk it being one of these.
Never again.

Are you referring to the 2.5" SATA ones or the NVMe's?

I have a HV E2000 NVME , still going strong. I know the 2.5" SATA ones are an issue.
