Basically videos of obscure bands with low view count but that sound pretty good (to me)

starting off with Kil Kil, I saw this band in 2014 and they are definitely worth it, they will again be playing next week in Cape Town

saturnz likes a challenge.

The first song off their last and best album, I picked it up because I liked the cover and my dealer approved.

originally from Pretoria, this is the most prolific band I've come across, sometimes releasing two albums a year and atleast one a year- definitely worth seeing live as well

I'm quite proud to say I have two of their albums on vinyl, and this is the first song off the second of those albums

I honestly can't make out if you are trolling, or just have a really unapproachable taste in music. :o

what kind of "sound" do you like? for example, do you prefer organic or electronic music

maybe I can suggest something within that context

It's hard to encapsulate, actually, as I listen to a fairly broad variety of music, the actual genres of which are about the least important element. Some of my favourites currently though, just glancing through my library:

  • Devin Townsend (favourite musician of all time, no doubt about it)
  • Feed Me
  • Tool / APC / Puscifer
  • Queens of the Stone Age
  • Siriusmo
  • Opeth
  • Boards of Canada

And lots of other stuff - This is just striking my fancy at the moment. It's mostly very... melodic, groovy, wall-of-soundish, so I guess it's those sorts of attributes that float my boat.

Listened to Caspian?

Listened to Caspian?

I am, now.

Enjoying the drummer very much, and the music is good, to be sure - Post rock (I guess this is what it is?) I do struggle with a little bit - It all sounds the same to me (which is not a criticism as ultimately most bands 'sound the same'), but I struggle to listen to it for extended periods. It does remind me of a band I came across a while ago though, that I quite enjoyed, but they went more electronic as their albums progressed... trying to remember...

Ah, yes, Vessels:

*edit*

This is all making me want to make some music again...

I feel kinda similar about it. I don't really have it on my phone or anything, but like now - taking a listen after a long break - I'm super into it for this moment. A bit like medicine.
Will check out Vessels in a bit...

Adding this to my phone for listening on my way to work tomorrow morning.. particularly like the chunky, fuzzy bass at around the 3 to 4 minute mark.. very good listening..

interesting you like QOTSA, but this thread is a hipster meme as such, QOTSA is "mainstream"

all my music, across all genres, is not as polished as Devin though- its mostly "raw energy", even the trip hop albums that I have- I'm not a fan of polished music.

Yeah, that was cool. :)

QotSA are of course mainstream, I was just trying to get across the sort of music I listen to. As for polish - If I think about it, much of what I listen to is very polished actually but it's incidental more than a criteria.

I'm not sure if this qualifies as hipster, but some awesome electronic stuff that's not very well known:

KilKil will be at Suntravolta tonight, R50 cover and they will be on at 10:45, I'll definitely be going

They also will be playing tomorrow on Hectic on Hope, and then some other shows in other cities.

This is a service I'd like.
Being notified of live gigs in my area.
See far too little live music, wish I knew about more.
