Hi all. I kbow this has been discussed 100 times, but I want to buy a TV at around 10 000 Rand. My wife and I have been watching on the laptop for years and it's time now. The hisense 65b7100 looks like the best bang for the bucks, but I saw some people complaining about back lighting issues and as a noon I just want to switch it on and watch TV without drama. What do is the best TV out there for 10 000 odd Rand?

The B7100 range is Hisense's entry level 4k UHD series...
Best bang for buck:
Hisense 55B8000 ULED for R8000
Hisense 55Q8600 QLED for R10500

But if your after a 65" I wouldn't know what else to suggest for that price.

thanks. would the quality difference between these tv's be noticeably different? is the 65B7100 a good tv or would it give me issues?

I saw this one on takealot: https://www.takealot.com/hisense-65-uled-tv-with-over-a-billion-colours/PLID54712783/description. doesnt say what model it is though but it reckons its a 65 inch QLED?

Spend extra on B8000, is what I have. Just much better with dolby vision and dolby atmos support.

OK thanks. Don't know what Dolby atmos support is but I'll figure it out. One of the reviews on takealot was complaining about the sound?

I had the 55B8000 ULED and now have the 55Q8600 QLED. Both are excellent TVs, although the QLED is much better.

The sound on both of them has been perfectly fine for me, especially when watching movies which have Dolby Atmos. They have only 10w speakers but people expect them to be very loud like in previous TVs, but most people in today's time, all have sound bars which can connect to these TVs via Bluetooth, which obviously will improve the sound. Modern TVs are built around people having sound bars, but I'm quite happy with the sound of the TVs as is.

Getting one of these TVs will future-proof you later in future as they have the latest in features and tech i.e. Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, Dstv-now app preloaded ...

You asked if the B7100 would give you issues... I definitely don't think so... But the sound is also poor on that TV in the sense of it only having 10w speakers as well...
There are pros and cons on these TVs, you cannot find the perfect TVs in these price ranges, but they pretty darn good for the price they ask.

If you want best of the best at the moment, you should look at OLED TVs by LG or Samsung (although Samsung doesn't support Dolby Vision at all and doesn't appear to ever will) and be expected to pay well over 20k for anything.

Some things to note on the various models to perhaps help you.

•B7100•
Entry level UHD
HDR
Smart TV
Has DStv-Now, Netflix etc preloaded
Has very decent viewing angles ( TV can be watched while sitting at various angles in the room, and not just directly in front of it)
Sound isn't the greatest.

•B8000 ULED•
ULED technology
Over 1 billion colours
Wide colour gamut
HDR
Local dimming
700 Nits brightness.
Smart TV with same apps preloaded as stated above
Has 2.4Ghz as well as 5Ghz WiFi.
Bluetooth
Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos
Sound is better than on the B7100 in my opinion
Very poor viewing angles. Colour washes out to a bright white if you watching from angles not in front of the TV.

•Q8600 QLED•
QLED technology
Quantum dot
Over 1 billion colours
Wide colour gamut
HDR
Local dimming (double the zones compared to the B8000)
1000 Nits brightness. The colour is insanely brilliant on this TV.
Smart TV with same apps preloaded as stated above
Has 2.4Ghz as well as 5Ghz WiFi.
Bluetooth
Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos
Sound is better than on the B7100 in my opinion
Very decent viewing angles. Probably equal to the B7100, and much better than the B8000.
Low reflecting panel... So very ideal if placed in a very bright room or near a window.

Hope that helps.

I've attached a spec sheet I found online for you to view.
Credit to whoever made it.

Thanks pdf. That's amazingly helpful. I'm definitely not going Oled 12 000 is my max. The last question then is whether you would go for a 65 inch B8000 or 55 inch Q8600. I will go to makro on sun and look at them both but those display tvs don't seem to demonstrate the tvs full potential.

I also saw someone talking about how the B8000 is good only if matched with a good media player such as shield TV. Is it necessary to get such a thing?

To get the best out of any TV, you need to input the best content to get the best output.
Dont expect that from Dstv... Netflix, Youtube, Xbox and PS4 will reveal its true worth.

As for which I prefer, I went from the ULED to the QLED, and I prefer the QLED all day. Its just that little bit better, both in picture and aesthetics... but if you are after a bigger screen just keep it mind the seating distance... If you have the room size, then by all means... But sit too close and it can ruin the viewing experience.

Go visit the store and see for yourself. I always force them to connect the TVs to Dstv via hdmi as I want to see real content, and not the in-store-mode demos that are pre-loaded because they make all the TVs look wonderful, until you see everyday television. See which you prefer, and go for it. Either way, they are both excellent.

Good Luck!
