As I understand the history curriculum has been revised some year ago to address (or update) globalism and national narratives.

I have no idea on this though, how the new curriculum looks like.

Lol. Good luck with that. I remember studying the Mfecane in Grade 10 or 11 in history, and most of the sources were of the "oral tradition".

i spoke to someone that was not even tought mandela lived in victor verster for the last part of his sentence, 8 years or something, they were taught he was in his little cell on robbin island for the entire duration.
 
Reminds me about my old man bitching about having to learn about the great trek & how each school year they got a little further with their trekking.

We got about 50/50 mix of SA history and everything else, which seems reasonable.
 
I’m ok with this, US schools cover very little European history (major milestones) and no Asia or Africa specific history

If, by right winger and 'triggered' you mean me, then I think you have the wrong guy. If, by massively amused at the amount of cheering and misplaced pride displayed in cinemas around the world at the idea that this work of fiction is somehow indicative of what would have been without colonisation, well then I'm totally your man.
 
When I was at school in South Africa, we did South African history (such as JVRB and the settlers etc), but also apartheid (duh), the Vietnam war, slavery, World War I, World War II, etc etc.

A good mix, if you ask me. Both local and international history, and also a variety of different nations, not only Germany or only America.

I don't think we did that much Asian history admittedly.

Anyway, my point is, what is wrong with what they teach now? Are they going to stop teaching slavery? Or World War 2?

Not true. Even online sources have info about his time at Victor Verster.

One thing I've being doing lately is watching American WW2 documentaries then tracking down the same documentary in Japanese. Same footage, interviews etc. Completely different stories, liberal translations both ways etc. :erm:

Eurocentrism (Americacentrism? :p) is definitely a thing. But don't tell anybody around here that.

This was one of the reasons the voortrekkers were able to establish settlements so easily, thanks to Shaka Zulu's acts of genocide and ethnic cleansing which was later adopted by other tribes, many tribes just packed up and ran for the hills leaving vast areas depopulated.

This could have vast consequences for Land Expropriation Without Compensation theortically Xhosa and Ndebele Tribes could claim land from the Zulu King

I can believe that. They did it in movies as well, especially war movies. Until the opening scene of Saving Pvt Ryan of course...:erm:

But it is! Even in the US education is vastly different from state to state. Texas teaches creationism and barely mentions Darwinism.

The victor writes the education
