Hi Guys

I'm going for a full STD test tomorrow after my condom broke on Friday the 18th and I'm really scared right now. Does anyone have any contact details for HIV support groups that may be able to help in the Cape Town area? You can PM me if you don't want to post.

I'm a heterosexual white male, if you need to know but I am not homophobic at all so it doesn't matter if it's a gay group.

 Right now, I'm not scared of death, but the idea of life is freaking me out, big time!

I don't know of any such groups personally unfortunately. Did you already have an HIV test? It's just that you state that you're going for STD tests tomorrow, yet your user name is NewlyDiagnosed. So I'm just wondering...

You'll probably be fine, so don't freak out too much. Also, it'll be too early to be absolutely certain. If it's negative, go back again in three months and keep an eye out on any flu-like symptoms in the first month or two:

HIV infection has four basic stages: incubation period, acute infection, latency stage and AIDS. The initial incubation period upon infection is asymptomatic and usually lasts between two and four weeks. The second stage, acute infection, lasts an average of 28 days and can include symptoms such as fever, lymphadenopathy (swollen lymph nodes), pharyngitis (sore throat), rash, myalgia (muscle pain), malaise, and mouth and esophageal sores.

Have a doctor take blood and send it to the labs, I think that's probably more accurate than the quick tests. Also, if you are found to be HIV+ your doctor will be able to suggest support groups and coping strategies for you.

Now that that's over with--any particular reason you were sleeping with someone you suspect is HIV+? Darwin Award much?

So you want an AIDS support group because your condom broke? Get tested positive first.

So either the person you nailed has the disease in which case lycan has given you the award or you nailed a prozzie?

Yeah, I have to chuckle. The guy's alias is "NewlyDiagnosed" so he's pretty much betting on being infected. There's a fascinating story of stupidity involved here and I can't wait to find out more :D

Did your doctor put you onto a prophylactic ARV course? It could still significantly reduce the probability of infection.

I really hope the level of stupidity is not banging a cheap prozzie with a government issue condom :D. Also perhaps carry some lube because when it's dry things break.

So true!

Look, I'm really not wishing anything bad on our new member and hope he's okay and that it's just a false alarm. The thing is, it's just really, really difficult to ignore the fact that there's a story in here of epic FML proportions :p

For sure and i cannot wait for the story detailing the experience :D.

You could have gone onto a prophylactic 28 day ARV treatment if you'd been quick enough and it would have reduced your risk of getting infected to essentially zero.

You usually get counselling and advice on support groups when you go in for your results.

Seems that way..

Correct.

If finances are a problem PM me and I can refer you to one of the better government clinics for care.

Having sex with a person who is HIV+ does not mean that you will contract the disease. It means that there is a chance of contracting it. Contrary to popular belief, it is not a matter of 'they had it and now I must have it'.
With that said, it really is better if we all believe it..

firstly, sorry in advance for my brash language,

but unless you banged the town bicycle, you should be ok, if you know she/he was infected then there is cause for concern.

dont panic, im guessing you're young or just previously lost your virginity?

+1.... makes you feel like **** for 3 months...but could save you... and its good for weighloss :p

Will a test so soon give you an accurate result? Doesnt it only reflect after a few weeks? 6 if I remember correctly?

Think it can take up to six months.... I was retested at 3 and 6 months. (was around 2005/6, not sure if the testing has changed somewhat).
