You're better off going with a private doctor. The final test I went for a year out of that exposure was with a private lab and I got that result back before I got the results from the government testing. That is right it took so many months that eventually I just stopped waiting. For all I know my bloods might still be awaiting processing. :eek:

The State system is slow and unreliable. Most private labs do 3 different tests on your bloods to make sure of their results. You get your results normally within 24 hours while the State takes months to get back to you.

The only reason I went through the State system was because my injury happened at a state hospital so they had to provide me with the meds for free and honestly it was the closest place for me to go to get the meds. I never did it for the tests, I did it to get the meds as quickly as possible after exposure (if you can get the meds down your throat within an hour of exposure there has never been a case of HIV infection under those circumstances). I would recommend the private system over the State system every single time.

Also if you can afford it don't go to clinics. They only do the Rapid test which has a remarkably high rate of false positives. You want something more accurate like an ELISA. The knowledge of their counselors also leaves much to be desired. State hospitals at least have properly trained staff that know what they're talking about and your bloods will (eventually :rolleyes:) go through the tests you need to be certain of the results.

It doesn't look like OP is replying. I read somewhere that the chances of getting infected from having sex with an HIV positive person is something like 1%.

Receptive anal intercourse ("bottom")

Other experts place the risk as low as 1 in 1300.

Important Fact!
Infection can and does occur with just one unprotected sexual encounter. It's important to note that even though the risk is 1 in 1300, that one chance in 1300 can be the first time.

Vaginal intercourse - infected men to uninfected women
There are so many variables that impact risk it is very difficult to place an exact number or give you exact odds. Risk estimates range from 1:1000 to 1:100,000, again depending on variables such as viral load, number of sexual contacts, etc. The important thing to remember is that it only takes once regardless of the odds so condoms are a must.

Yes, there is a chance you can get infected when you sleep with someone who has it. Why do you think it is spreading? It is a deadly virus, something you should not be dabbling in.

Thing about aids is everyone thinks o just wear a condom and your safe, it is spreading like wildfire. Aids cases have doubled in UK and it is infecting the world. So DON'T **** someone who has aids!!!!!!!! Fairly obvious.

If people were forced to get tested and banned from having sex we could control it. Brand them and start sending people to jail who are having sex knowing they are infected. Branding would work well because even with a condom you could catch it and i doubt many aids infected people tell other people, they just think a condom will be fine.

Brand people with the virus and start sending people to jail for manslaughter. It is time we got on top of this disease. The only way we can it spreading is by stopping people getting infected. That means no sex with infected people at all. That means stop handing out drugs and kill off the aids generation. There is another extreme option but that would only happen if it was airborne but it kills slowly so we just let it spread like wildfire.

Just in africa 7000 people die a day from aids, is there something that kills more people? Yet some people think playing russian roulette with a disease that kills 7000 people a day is the way to go? If you get infected by accident well tough luck, such is life bud. Putting other people at risk because you got unlucky seems very selfish to me.

The real problem is that nobody has a clue who has aids and there is no way to tell for the most part. The real problem is that we do not take it seriously enough. Condom or no condom you run the same risks. Would you say getting aids is accidental if you got it wearing a condom?

Did you know the person's status? Did the person know their status? How many people with aids are having sex with people thinking a condom is enough? How many people think it is a horrible disease that kills you? Obviously not many.

The real problem is acting like it is not a real problem when it is killing thousands every day and we are doing virtually nothing to stop it spreading. It's becoming normal and accepted by everyone and now we have drugs that can fight it. Start acting like this is a serious problem and put some serious things into to play to stop it spreading, until then it will silently infect the world.

Should people be allowed to travel if they are infected? I doubt someone with bird flu would be allowed to fly all over the world. I think at some point a hard stance needs to be taken. This whole we have drugs that can keep you alive and condoms will protect you BS is just feeding the fire.

Mandatory testing should be implemented and if infected you get branded, much like cattle. Yes horrible, nasty OMG how could we? Let's rather let it kill 7000 people a day in africa and who knows how many die world wide from it. Most death certificates don't say AIDS as the cause.
