So they did upgrade their DSLAM thingy! Im in Pretoria.

MWEB doesnt seem to want to connect though. SO im using Telkom Internet Account.

Anyone else experiencing this?

: ( Doesnt seem to making difference on backhaul though... although the local upload did hit 800.

ISP is still throttling to 4Mbps. Now i suppose we wait for tuesday when everyone starts punting packages.

I keep disconnecting and syncing at different speeds since this morning.
Noise Margin 8 db 7 db
Line Attenuation 24 db 11.5 db
I've seen the noise margin go over 1 million

Hi bleh69, what part of PTA are you in? I am also here, and I am wondering when it's going to be my turn :-) Also, did you ask them to re-sync your line at all, or did it just connect at those speeds itself?

Cheers, and enjoy!

man I'm only at 6560 kbps/ 832 kbps . But cant use the extra speed anyways cause of uncapped so oh wells.. (in Kempton Park btw)

You must be living right on top of the exchange for those nice speeds :)

im syncing at 10015/1026 but alas, like peanut pointed out, means nothing when you're on uncapped

In another thread someone said it means your 4Mb limit from the ISP now really reaches 4Mb, i.e 500KB download speeds. You experiencing anything similar?

It makes sense seeing as we were limited to about 3.6Mb before due to something at the exchanges. And why are Plumstead and Rondebosch upgraded but Bergvliet not! We're onto our second digging up of the pavement for fibre. :/

Looks like Telkom finally came through:

Let's see how stable though.....

I've also got a line in Kempton but no improvements.. If you don't mind me asking what are the 1st 6 digits of your number? I'm on 011391 and nothing...

Line there is potent:

SNR Margin:30 22
Attenuation:10 5
Output Power (0.1 dBm): 114 123
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 11840 1080

I'm actually in Pretoria...I just had to do the speedtest to a Joburg server since the PTA one is down...

BTW, my line stats looks like such:

SNR: 19.1 down & 8 up
Attenuation: 16 down & 9 up

which I think are very acceptable values.

I also on the 391 exchange, and still at 4 meg. The problem will be that it is the Chloorkop exchange, and I am in Van Riebeeck Park. That is a good 5 or 6 km, so not expecting the best, but I must say that at 4 meg I usually get 4 meg, seems like the exchange is not too busy.

I just checked my works' link, as it goes via the Isando exchange, and that is still at 4 meg.

We're in Glen Marias. Our line performed like a pig but I harassed Telkom and eventually they put our line on the fibre optic backbone. Been blitz ever since although I don't really see 4mb speeds, more like 80% of that which I attribute to traffic on the exchange. I assume Birchleigh exchange=Chloorkop exchange or am I wrong?

EDIT: Chloorkop and Birchleigh are different exchanges but according to my reference Chloorkop services 976, 578 and 393 while Birchleigh is 391 and 972...

I know that Glen Marais is horrible. I have seen 4 meg lines there syncing at no more than 1.6 meg, that is if you can actually get a ADSL port that is available.
I think you might be right, the exchange in Brichleigh is know as Chloorlop. My readings from my router is as follows,

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4096 kbps 512 kbps
Line Attenuation 29.0 db 18.0 db
Noise Margin 25.4 db 12.0 db

From what I read on the net this should give me 10 meg, if I am close enough to the exchange.

We were syncing at less than 1mb before the upgrade!!!!! HORRIBLE!! Copper all the way from Glen Marias to Birchleigh. Once on the fibre different animal altogether!!!!!

Your line reading are reasonably good. I would agree at least 8mb if not 10mb...

I just did some checking,, the 391 code is Birchleigh.

Correct, the line has been particluarly unstable today. I assumed 10mb tweaking but alas there appears to a technical fault on our line....!!!! Currently syncing at 1mb.....!!!!
