Home Affairs testing new online system — no more long queues

The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) had launched a pilot programme to book appointments at its branches online, which it claims will reduce long queues and wait times.

The system has been linked to the country's population register so that South Africans can book an appointment with their ID numbers.

Not going to work. Majority of the population does not have Internet access, let alone devices to use the Internet. Millions will still rock up at offices and cause long queues. No way those with appointments can be helped on time.

While an upgrade to broadband infrastructure at Home Affairs would be welcome, it may not solve the underlying problem, which is a lack of redundant network connections at most of the department’s offices
Not to mention the "I just don't give a ****" attitude of the staff

Not quite sure why they don't just expand the currently online system for ID cards and Passports. Works just fine.

Also, can't fathom why the DHA at a bank branch is night and day experience compared to a DHA office.

Soon they will have 10 gigs a month...

10Mbps as an upgrade in 2022. For a high volume business. I actually can't.

Yesterday spent the whole day trying to renew my passport on old system. Constant problems, errors, website down, etc. Tried phoning every single number on their site (just for the hell of it) not a single phone was answered! They should concentrate on their existing booking before embarking on yet another expensive failure.

No way I'll go to home affairs office unless I really really need to. Did my new passport through ABSA Sandton, Biometrics took about 15 minutes all and all. Three days later I got an sms saying I can go and fetch it. No idea why the ones at the banks are so much more effecient.

I noticed the old system runs fine early in the morning before 9am, after that it's a **** show.

Fitting a square peg into a round hole never worked and the 'know how' just does not exist in that Department to determine whether the peg is even round and/or square...

Easy fix:

Don't get born/married.
And if you do either of those, make sure you do it on or under a bridge so that you will never ever have to try to obtain unabridged certificates like the ignoramuses.

Eish baba. So much fail here.

Some one tell them how to use font sizing.

Scrolling to the right

And then it calls some back end.

They have some big config issues there.
